My pipe has a lot of bite mars in it is that normal or am I just biting to hard?

I know I've gotten a number of marks on some pipe's stems I have. I think that not all stem material is created equal, so some is harder than others and more resistant to bite marks, and some of us are biters/clenchers more than others as well.
Vulcanite stems are more susceptible than acrylic. Some people use the "soft bits" to protect their stems if they are clenchers. http://www.smokingpipes.com/accessories/pipe-supplies/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=142

If you're a hard clencher try some softy bits. I fine them more comfortable than clenching a bare stem especially a lucite stem, and never smoke without them.

thanks for the suggestions I will try the soft bit.
I find it fitting that a guy named Ratman would have teethmarks on his pipes.
I need to get me some soft bits too. I'm a clencher and have the bite marks on the stems to prove it!
I am a major clincher. As I moved up the quality and cost levels of pipes I decided to get some softies to protect the investment so to speak. It took some serious adjustment time getting used to the new mouth feel but now I have to have them on everything.
I use the rubber bits as well. However, I have a P-lip with a stem too narrow for the cover. Has anyone seen any of these in a very narrow size?
I have one on every one of my pipes except the corncob (I don't expect them to last long, so I don't really care about bite marks).
