Birth Year Razor Options?

Alright... so my wife wants to get me a birth year razor for my first fathers day (or at least I suggested the idea and she went for it). My question is before I put up an ad in the BST I want to know what options are out there for birth year razors from ..... 1982? Thanks.

1982 would be the black handle super speed or the super adjustable.

1982 is the C letter code. Then 1 through 4 for each quarter of the year.

I would lean you to the super adjustable. I shaved exclusively with a super adjustable razor for around 45 years without a single complaint.

Nice. Thanks for the info Turtle. I think I am going to lean towards the Adjustable.. hopefully I can find a C4 one (I'm Oct 1982).

There are only so many letters in the alphabet and C comes around twice, 1957 and 1982 so don't be lulled into getting a red tip or toggle even though they are nice they are 1957 vintage C date code razors :001_smile

Also good to know....

Good luck in your search! I'm 3rd quarter of 1983 (D3). I've yet to come across either a Super Adjustable or a black handled Super Speed with that code. There doesn't seem to be as many out there for us 80s babies.

Yeah, I remember in 83' was the first year that I started learning to shave. My Dad didn't have much patience to teach things, but he did try to help me the first few times. I can remember my Mom standing in the background half panicked telling my Dad "tell him not to press so hard". But I never remember my Dad shaving with a DE. I learned on a double bladed cartridge of some sort, I don't really know what. Shick, Astra...not sure. Most of my life I remember my Dad using whatever the latest Gillette cart was out, so I did the same. I shaved with the Sensor and then the Sensor Excel for years. The first time I remember realizing how expensive it was starting to get is when they wanted $10 for an 8 pack (I think) of Sensor Excel carts, and half the time I bought the plain Sensor because they were cheaper.

I don't even remember seeing DE's in the stores in 83, but I'm sure they were there. My Grandad always shaved with a DE, and my Grandmother (Nana) used one too. Most of the ones I remember were all silver TTO's, probably Super Speeds (I don't remember them being adjustable) but I do remember seeing a black handled one and thinking it must have been a cheepie, since the handle wasn't all metal. It was probably a nice Super Adjustable. My Dad is now living in my Grandparents house, since my Grandad died (92') and my Nana had to move to assisted living, several years ago. He now has the unpleasant task of sorting through 70 years of clutter and accumulation. In my Nana's later years she really became a hoarder. She grew up during the depression so they made use of everything and never threw anything away. I have him looking for their old stashes of DE razors, because she would never throw them away. Maybe only if they were broken, and when my Grandad was alive. After he passed, I don't think she got rid of anything ever again.

By 83' DE shaving was nearly dead in the mainstream, so production was probably way down. If you keep looking you will find one, maybe not your birth quarter but certainly your birth year. You may have to surrender to the evils of eBay, but you will find it. Good luck.

Get a super adjustable. I actually think the 80s SA are unbelievably good. Their use of plastic in the head unintentionally improved the balance and tactile feedback of the thing a great deal. I have an 84 and it is just awesome.

Glad to hear this, I've got an 84 that was sitting in my parents' medicine cabinet the entire time I was growing up. I'm looking forward to trying it.

I'm in the same boat... looking for a C3 Super Adjustable, though I'd probably jump on a Super Speed as well if it came up for a reasonable price. For anyone interested, there is currently a C2 Super Adjustable on eBay right now.

Didn't know they made them that late. Well, I'll have to keep my eyes open. '83 here. I did just buy my dad a birth year Slim Adjustable though ('62). A little easier!

Hi!

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I was hoping someone could tell me what my birth year razor would be? I'm a 1971. I did look on the wikipage, and I think it's a

Oh, and good luck finding yours, EF!
