What's new

Big Red Badger

I love swirled Catalin.
This one is a frankenhandle I pieced together from two different brushes.
The knot is set and it'll be ready tomorrow night.
TGN 26mm Silvertip with a 49mm loft.

Hey thanks - this one was a lot of work. I had to cut the top off the bakelite handle and slowly cut away the inner parts to get the handle free. That brush was built to last. I thought it would never come apart.
The top section came off an old brush that I used as a template for some new handles.
You can see it here on the right side;

To get it somewhat presentable I had to sand and paint it, redo the lettering and hit it with a couple of clear coats.
I'm dying to try it - but I have to wait until tomorrow. Ahh... patience.

Maiden Voyage... Today Big Red gets a shot at bowl-lathering. Tomrrow will be the face-lathering trial.
I like the short loft - i can really get into my whiskers without it feeling annoying or scratchy.

wow, looks awesome.

I'd love that handle with a 620 knot in it

Hey thanks!
I am going to do a boar knot brush eventually - not sure about how I want to go about putting it together yet.

Big Red turned out to be an awesome face-lathering brush. A little D.H. Harris sandalwood turned my face into a spicy cloud of whisker-soaking luxury.

I think I have a keeper here. It needs a couple weeks of break-in yet but I'm sold on this short-loft fat-knot configuration. If I get another one of these handles I'm going to see if I can fit a 28 mm knot on there.

That's what I was expecting - red badger hair.

Funny - it's somehting I didn't think of and It's a great idea - but I don't know how I could do it. I talked about dying hair with my girl and she says that all dye comes out eventually. If I could somehow dye it permanently... without sacrificing softness.. maybe I'll just try it on a boar knot or something.. see how that goes..
A flame-red top on a big fat silvertip knot would look awesome..

Just a flollow up - with several times into the bowl now, I'm really loving this brush for lathering on the face. the shorter loft really paid off here and after a little break-in I'm impressed. I like it a lot... it didn't bloom a whole lot either, which is nice... I think it might be better to take a full sized fat knot and set it lower that it would be to use one of the shorter-loft knots... I may build a test brush with the low-profile knot as an experiment to see if my assumption is correct.
