Best synthetic brush? please help

I think $80 is pricy, but I don't know. This is my first time using and purchasing a shaving brush. All feedback is welcome.

This one used to get a lot of attention here: HIS brush

I bought one and have used it frequently. I thought of it as a travel brush but it is too big for that. It is a nice looking, soft brush.
Cheers.

Welcome!

In the synth category, Muhle seems to offer the best choice.
If the silvertip fibers are a bit pricey, you may consider the black fibers.

I have two of the Muhles. They generate a ton of lather and are really nice. There are fans of the Muhle brushes who have sold off all their animal hair brushes, some costing a lot more than the synthetics, they've been so won over.

Be sure to ask whatever vendor you're ordering from to send you the new, or v2 edition of the brush. There was an older version - the v1 - of the synthetic fibre. It was also very good, but the new one's supposed to be even better, and, if you're like me, not knowing which one you've got will drive you crazy.

Which one would you recommend? What is the 23mm and L or XL mean? What is difference between the kosmo silver tip and one that just says silver tip?

Here is another site with a great price on the Muhle synthetic and the page says its the version 2 fibres. Someone else had posted this last week and I bookmarked it. The price shown is in Euros or whatever that symbol is, so depending on where you live, you might have to do some converting to see the actual price. I figure it is close to $45 US.

I don't have any experience with the brush but it comes pretty highly recommended here on the forum. It is on my list of brushes to add real soon.

I own a number of synths, and the Mühle HJM is one of my all-time favorites. At less than $40, I think it's a bargain.

I have two of the H.I.S. original synthetic brushes, one black handle and one clear handle, and one H.I.S. synthetic in the 25 mm knot and 54 mm loft and I like them both a lot better than the two Muhle version 1 synthetics I have, a 31K256 and a 31K252.

The Muhle version 1s are a lot less dense than the H.I.S synthetics and seem a bit floppy plus they're more expensive. Both kinds of brushes are really soft though.

Finally, I like the original H.I.S. synthetic brush better than the newer, smaller-knotted, lower-lofted versions you can get.

I own several synthetic brushes in a span of price ranges and I feel the best bang for your buck are the Omega brushes you can get at West Coast Shaving. For just $30.00 they are great, you would have to spend at least twice that price to get better quality.

Which one would you recommend? What is the 23mm and L or XL mean? What is difference between the kosmo silver tip and one that just says silver tip?

Kosmo, as was pointed out, is a handle type. The other handle types are the classic and the purist. The L and XL and 23mm or 21mm or 19mm all refer to the diameter of the knot, that is, the diameter of the hairy part where it meets the handle. L is, I think, 23mm, M is 21, etc. I have a 21mm and a 23mm, both in the classic handle shape. There actually is a noticeably beefier feel to the larger of those two, and the wider knot generates even more lather than its slightly littler twin, which produces a pretty ridiculous amount itself. Unfortunately it comes down to personal preference, so you might wind up with two when all you need is one. I'd go for the 23mm size. Look at the different handles and pretend you can tell from that which you'll prefer, then order that. I like the classic, but I haven't tried the others. Yet.

I face lather. I have an Omega-made synthetic ($25 or so at Connaught) and an HJM black fibre. The latter--great prices at Connaught ($25, delivered) and shaving.ie--is much superior to the Omega. The Muhle HJM is much softer on the face but nonetheless has excellent backbone and lathers great. The Omega's good, too, but its fibers, I think, are a generation behind the Muhle HJM's.
