Best Simpson for bowl lathering?

I candidate the Emperor 3.
It is not only beautiful IMHO, but its handle shape and knot size make it perfectly apt for a bowl.
Mine are three band silvertip and very performant latherers, but if I recall correctly they also come in Best.

Also available in white ivory.

I was using a Simpson Colonel when I bowl lathered. When I switched to face lathering I passed the Colonel to my son-in-law. He's been using it to bowl lather for the past 2 years and is still very happy with it. However, if you can afford it, go for the Emperor.

Any of the longer loft longer handed models should work in a bowl

Emperor
Polo
Persian Jar
Harvard

Any of the above. The best bowl lathering Simpsons I own is my Harvard H6.

Persian Jar 3 on the left Harvard H6 on the right (for comparison)

In my opinion any brush in the Polo, Persian Jar and Fifty Series. The Colonel is a great option too, especially if budget is low.

In my opinion any brush..... and Fifty Series

I was going to suggest the 50 series (even had it listed)... but... I have no personal experience with them and from the specs the loft is a little lower then the others I suggested, which I do have personal experience with. The H6 can stand toe to toe with my Kent BK8 which very few brushes can do :001_smile

I don't own any 50 Series brush, but have used the 57 and 58 in the past. Both have a wonderful knot with a quite long loft, which combined with a comfortable handle, make them ideal for bowl/scuttle use IMHO. I agree on the Harvard, which I have not mentioned before.

Thanks for the suggestions all, the emperor in horn looks awesome, guess I need to decide what price point I want to come in at for my first simpson brush.

Why do the Simpson branded shaving bowls cost so much - I mean it is just a piece of pottery with their name slapped on the side????
