Best of both worlds

Anyone know of a brush that has the backbone of a medium EJBBB, but with the softness of the tips of a super/silvertip? Would think it would need a bigger knot as well.

I Have been using a faux horn, extra large, EJ Best badger brushes since December, 2009. It is larger then I really need, but it provides tremendous amounts of lather whenever I want it and holds the heat longer then a smaller brush. It was on sale with the shipping paid. I paid about $47.00 for the extra large, best badger. After reading that the best badger was stiffer and scubbier then the silver tip, I ordered the best badger. I was not disappointed, plus there was not any scratchyness. I think you will be very happy with a medium, best badger EJ.

ChrisP,

What brush(es) are you using now? If you want a soft brush with "backbone", it is entirely possible to get a silvertip brush with a short loft, which is all the rage now. If you want a short loft, large knot, and long handle, your best bet might be a custom Shavemac.

This is Finest but it should work just as well with silvertip I should think.

Thanks for all the replies gents. I should've made myself a bit clearer though.

I own a medium EJBBB and a Vulfix 2233, amongst others. These two guys get the most use. I love the EJ - my favorite, just thought it would be good to have something with a similar backbone but with softer tips - been looking at the Kent BK4, but I doubt it'd be any firmer than the Vulfix. I'm not into massive brushes either.

So get it made with a shorter handle. I was just showing what was done to it. It's set deep and the knot is pinched by the handle to give it more spine than the prickliest boar brush even with very soft tipped hair. The one thing though is to make sure you get a big knot (I'd say 24mm (what that is) is a minimum. 26 is probably ideal) because it won't bloom very much (since the loft is substantially reduced).

Chris, I don't think the Kent BK4 is what you're after. I would try custom spec'ing a Shavemac or buying a Rooney 3/2 in Super Silvertip. You may want to also look at Simpson brushes in Super with 24mm knots.

Simpsons Ehsan. I have one and I love it. I think it is a 23mm knot with a short tight loft with tons of backbone. And the tips are incredibly soft and getting softer with every use it seems.
