Best free disc burning software for Win 7 netbook?

ETA: FIXED...it was there all the time!

I have an Acer 722 series netbook and need to install some sort of disc-burning software on it (I have a LiteON CD/DVD external drive)

I tried the free Nero disc that came with it and it didn't work. that, and Nero is way bloated.

Tried ImgBurn, too. again, no go. For some reason I am unable to point to the SCSI device in the external drive.

Any ideas? I don't need to burn disks often but when I do I really need to do it.

Also: do I need to plug in the external DVD Drive when installing any software? If so, is it helpful to have a blank disc inserted (probably not just thought I'd ask)

Yup. Just insert your blank CD/DVD, use Explorer to drag-drop files to the burner, then click on the burner. It will show an option to burn files.

My copy of Win 7 doesn't have native disc-burning software. It's a netbook and doesn't have an optical drive.

I'm going to try BurnAware Free. I don't have my external DVD drive with me but the interface on this app is very small and light.

I had to install 3rd party software to even play dvd's in my netbook with Win7. And Windows 8 is supposed to be dropping all DVD support, including play.

My computer came with Power2go. It works fine, and this free version seems to have all the basics.

Just slap me

If you double click on an .iso file Windows Image burn automatically pops up. It was there all the time.

However, if you look for it in the Start>Search Programs and Files no results are found.

CDBurnerXP is great. Infrarecorder as well.

If you go to www.download.com their are a ton of free and trialware burn-to-CD/DVD apps. I like Roxio the best although it's about $40.00-50.00 but it has a ton of options. Mediamonkey is pretty decent especially for tagging a song, plus it's free.
