Best colognes for people who don't like typical cologne scents

Sounds like you've got some great samples to try! I'm a big fan of the Nicolai NY Intense and your two Penhaligon's choices. Juniper Sling is great too. Tons of great options from ADP as well, I especially love Mirto di Panarea.

If you're looking for subtle, I always recommend Bvlgari BLV Pour Homme. I randomly sampled a while back and was really surprised how great it is. It's subtle, classy, inoffensive, slightly spicy, great all year round. Burberry Touch is a nice one too. They are two of my go-to work scents and feel safe.

I also don’t like a lot of the traditional cologne scents and I HATE anything remotely powdery. I’ve got three recommendations for you:
  1. Terre d’Hermes
  2. Bohemian Lime by Goldfield & Banks
  3. Tom Ford Oud Wood
Grab some samples off eBay. It‘s a great way to try new things. Good luck!

Thanks! Terre D'Hermes is already a favorite of mine. I've never heard of Bohemian Lime by Goldfield & Banks. I'll have to look into it.

I recently bought a bottle of Voyage for the nostalgia, but the previous one I had about 10 years ago was the canned Voyage. I think the glass bottle smells different; quite offensive and headache inducing, but that could just be my memory.

I didn’t like Floris 89 at all. It smelled like an old woman to me. Santal was the only Floris I really enjoyed.

Have you tried Dolce and Gabana ‘The one’? Its more of a date night/winter frag but I guess it depends on what season youre looking for. Sweet ones don’t do well in summer.
