Best Boar Brush for face lathering/

Hi,

I'm interested in getting a boar brush, read lots of good things about the Semague 830. Anyone have any comments on that or the Omegas? I'd like a stout little boar with solid backbone, short brush loft and a smaller size. I'd primarily be using it for face lathering with soaps like MWF and Tabac.

Thanks,

X

I have an omega boar brush which is my fav brush and use it far more than any badger hair brush i have, i like the big handle and the big hair and the weight of it, works great with soap or cream.

If you want a smaller boar, you can't go wrong with the Semogue 1305. A mean, wild hog!

How does the 1305 compare to the 830? Also, where can I get them? Are they better or worse than the Omegas (which are cheaper)?

Thanks,

X

The Omega 310XX series are great brushes and very soft on the face when they break in !

+1 on that. Mine was great even out of the box. And now it's getting even better. For the money, you can't go better than this.

The only place I have seen the Semogue 1305 is from Leon at vintagescent.com. Even though it ships from Europe, the final price remains very reasonable.

I have face lathered with the Omega 10049 and the 10005/80005 with very nice results. I like the 10005/80005 a little more due to the shorter loft and being a little firmer than the 10049.

If your only exposure to a boar brush is the VDH or the Burma Shave brushes, you really haven't tried a nice boar brush.

The Semogue 1305 is a fantastic brush. The 830 has the same bristle but 10% more of it. This is also a fantastic brush.

The Semogue 620/1520 fits your descrition better as it has a shorter loft.

Visit Leons site www.vintagescents.com

Omega make some great brushes too. However, they are generally floppier than Semogues of the same loft.

Great choice.
I have both a 620 and a 1305, and these are both great brushes.

Not to mention the LE edition, of course ;-)

If I bought a Semogue, it would have to be one of the Acrylic ones because my 1520 looks horrible after all the paint its lossed

I have the 1305 and it's a terrific brush. It was very soft from the get go. I also have the Omega 49. It's a totally different experience from the 1305. You'll love your 620 I'm sure. Congratulations on a great purchase!

By the way, I bought my 1305 from John at shavingessentials. His website has had some recent troubles unfortunately. He is a tremendous vendor.:thumbup1:

I use my 620 to face lather soaps (mainly MWF). It is a fantastic, dense brush which holds enough lather for my 3 passes plus touch ups.

Haven't tried the 830, but from what I've read, it similar, but a tad more hair. And a different handle.
vintagescent.com (Leon over here) is a great source.

I only own the bigger Omegas, but the 49 pro is my goto brush.
It is amazing once broken in & since I really love shavesticks, its the right kind of beast for me!
Omega boar has a really good reputation aswell.

edit:
I just saw that you've already ordered. Most probably you won't be dissapointed.

Good choice man. Be patient, it could take 10+ shaves to break in. But it will reward you very nicely.

Thanks dude! I'm stoked to get it. First boar, first brush to use primarly for face lathering. That is the reason I wanted it. I wanted to try a boar. I wanted something small and stiff for face lathering soaps like Tabac and MWF or Irisch Moos.
