Beard growth advice

Hi guys!
Am trying to grow my first beard but it’s not growing as full as I like? I there any tips on what I should do? Will it be less patchy if I continue to grow it or just give up?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks in advance! Time is all it takes, just like a watched pot never boils, give it time and welcome to the forum

Go with your strength areas. Trim down and shave the cheeks and neck and you have a sharp looking well defined jaw line beard.

The way to make a beard fuller takes time.
You have to grow it out, then cut it back (not off) numerous times until the slower growing parts catch up with the faster growing parts.
At least that’s how it’s been with mine.
Get a good set of hair clippers or trimmer and learn your clipper guard lengths If you haven’t already.

*For reference, I’ve had beard since 2001 and have used only clippers to shave almost exclusively.
Only recently did I start shaving with a razor on a regular basis.

Good advice, I have had a goatee for ten years. It took quite a few years to get it where I liked it. I keep it short and typically cut it with clippers to a 2. Patience is key, it’s easy to look in that mirror and be overly critical.

I would agree with the comments already given. If I were to add any advice it would be make sure to wash it with shampoo or special beard shampoo once or twice a week. also if you can afford it buy some beard balm and/or beard oil. You can start by buying some from Walmart called honest amish. I believe they have both the beard balm and oil. I have both. Just use as directed. I think the best is to let it grow and experiment by watching how it grows. all the best and happy beard growing!

This.

Your beard looks fine. Just give it time.

Other advice:

1. Don't shave your cheeks. Just let it grow up to its natural upper point there, and it will look fine. Shaving your cheeks is a waste of time and effort.

2. Shave a curve from below your ears to two fingers above your Adam's apple. You know you've got it right if, when you bow your head down, the line is right at (or slightly above) where your neck 'creases'. If you cut that line right at your jaw line, then you'll look ridiculous when you make certain faces and it rides farther up. If you cut that line too far down, then it will bunch up in that 'crease' whenever you look down.

3. My beard doesn't seem to be suited for growing long, or else I just don't have the skill set for trimming it that way. So I gave up a while ago and simply trim it with anything from a #½ guard to a #2 guard. I look my best when it's on the shorter end. Nothing less manly about that, so don't think you have to grow your beard long in order to rock a beard.

4. Beware that trimming your beard can give you an ingrown hair or two. It may seem counterintuitive, but those guard teeth are raking through your beard hair.
