What's new

Beard a lot tougher than I remember.

Good evening everyone. I'm still a newbie learning and trying to get into the
str8 shaving world. As I mentioned in an earlier post on the Shave Clinic forum I finally shaved my full beard after having it for 8 years and I do believe my beard is a LOT!! tougher than it used to be. Could this truly be possible or am I just out of my gourd:blink:? Also can anyone tell me if the str8 blade will be more effective at cutting this seemingly thick, coarse stubble. This is what I have heard and through research seems true but some feedback from str8 blade users would be nice. Sadly I'm still currently using the modern world 2 blade disposable razors for shaving at this time and it took multiple passes to get a half *** good shave from it this evening:mad3:. Anyway looking forward to the responses.

P.S. multiple passes are not exactly good for keeping irritation down.

I'm new to straight shaving and recently shaved off my goatee. What I found was that my face was seriously sensitive after not having shaved it for 12 years.

I have had good luck with a DE, but am starting to get nice close shaves with a straight. There is a learning curve however, so don't get frustrated if it takes a while to figure things out. You have to master beard prep (check out Kyle's sticky), cream or soap lathering and then the actual shave. I suggest you read the various stickies on these topics and watch Mantic's YouTube videos.

Also, to get a good straight or DE shave you do need multiple passes. It's about beard reduction not removal so it takes at least a couple passes. But it is worth it.

Good luck and keep posting!
