Barbershop shaves.

Why do i see a lot of barber shops who give shaves using a mach 3/fusion, is it because in thier opinion its the best shave about, it takes to long using a straight/de, or they are not trained to use the last 2 mentioned, not all barbers offer this but quite a few around my area advertise a complete wet shave using the mentioned razors?

I've not seen this myself, but to me, "lack of training" in this area seems the most likely explanation. If it were an issue of time, they could charge more. Same thing goes with cost savings... they save cost by taking a little less time (maybe), but they can only use those $3-4 blades once.

It's gotta be a training issue, although i also haven't seen it. Why would anyone pay someone else to shave them with a mach 3, a trained chimp could do the job.

I go to a barbershop that finishes up your haircut -- trimming sideburns and back of the neck -- using a straight. Judging by the razor burn I almost always get, I'd be terrified to let them at my face.
I'm not a straight razor user myself, but I think it's their technique more than prep or the razor itself that causes the problem. The blade angle just feels wrong (too aggressive) compared to my own DE shaving.

I've never seen that before! I'd actually say some kind of snide comment but so I won't even go into a place like that.

My barber finishes off my sideburns and the back of my neck as well, he has a lather machine and some scary looking straight.

Doesn't speak good english but never one problem with razor burn

There is a new barber shop not that far from me which looks very nice and expensive they use taylors prep, shave cream, balm a chioce of a/s and a complete shave using a mach 3!

My old barber uses a Dovo shavette as they are not allowed to use real straights. The shave itself was always decent and irritation free. I consistently give myself real and better straight shaves, but relaxing in the chair in the barbershop, getting draped with hot towels and ultra warm lather makes it worth it occasionally.

That's very weird but the other day i went to have a haircut at my local barbershop, the man is about 65 yrs old and i told him that since i use a DE i have better shaves and that my blades last longer. He looked at me like:eek:, and he said modern razors are far better,,and blades gives closer shaves. After he showed me a cheaper disposable whit 2 blades talking like it was THE razor,,i was like,,ok,,whatever ,,i wont argue more whit him.
