band question

Please excuse my ignorance, but just what is a band, when referred to brushes? What does a two band brush mean? I thought it meant the size of the handle, but I know this is not the case.

The appearance of the brush. 2-band has one dark band and one light band. 3-band is light, then dark, then light again. They also have some differing characteristics. 3-band strands are typically thinner and more flexible while 2-band is, wait for it, thicker and stiffer.

Quality - NO.
