What's new

Bakelite Opal 47

Here's the first restore I have done in a while. I sanded it out to 2500 grit and polished with Maas and Flitz. Still need to get the knot out and buff it when I get home. It has dark swirls through out the handle and the pics do not do I justice. $image.jpg$image.jpg$image.jpg

I love it! Very cool handle. I especially like the swirls. For some reason, it made me think of this scene from Pulp Fiction (precisely starting at about 39 seconds):

Finally got around to sanding the inside of the hole out. Wet sanded to 2k and polished with Maas and Flitz. Now all I need is a knot. There are a few deep marks left on the bottom but you shouldn't see them.

Do you plan to paint the inside of the recess? What was inside the recess before you cleaned it out? I'm wondering how you can keep most of that marbling without looking at the plug and epoxy. It is a beautiful brush!

Before you where staring at the knot base and epoxy. Didn't really think of painting it. Might tint the epoxy though.

That's stunning, Matt! What kind of knot are you going to use?

Most likely a 22mm short loft Best from TGN.

Thank you for all the comments.

Beautiful! I'm a real sucker for translucent handles...ones that let enough light through to glow like this one. Looking for something blue or green that's very translucent...not quite clear...

I have to agree with Big Jim. It's your brush so you'll do what you want, but IMHO, I think that brush was made to hold a Finest knot. I can't wait to see the finished product.
