What's new

Bad Day shave

I don't know if any of you do this, but I am having an extremely bad week, and today has topped it off :cursing:.. So I came home early (I am an on the road insurance salesman) and I get on B&B to drown my sorrows haha. But also, I plan on just giving myself a real nice shave. Its going to be like my Saturday shaves are, real elaborate, real long, and soothing shave. I feel like like when I give myself that extra time, and relaxation of my shave I feel loads better.. I guess this is how woman feel when they go to a day at the spa?

So my question asked, is who here has a specific shave they treat themselves to after a long day/long week long being whether it was a bad week, or if you were just so busy and drained. How do you go the extra mile for yourself? I'm interested to see if I'm the only one who does this sort of thing?

When I had my last dull day job, I used to love to come home from work, have a small scotch (can't get too loaded before shaving) then a hot shower and do my usual relaxing two-pass shave. I always felt like a new person afterward. Oh and of course I'd have another scotch after to celebrate & relax even more!

Ah, scotch. What is your scotch of choice? That sounds like a good shave! I need to rotate more alcohol into my shave routine haha. Not too much though of course! lol. Thanks for sharing!

Yep. It involves shaving with my favorite products. For me the most important part is the prep to prevent irritation and nicks. I wash and exfoliate (using a rough towel or nylon brush) my face with soap or Noxzema, rinse, apply glycerin, then shave using one of my favorite setups. Cold rinse, followed by witch hazel and an invigorating aftershave splash (alcohol, menthol).

I prefer blended scotch for everyday drinking. My favorite right now is Famous Grouse. You?

I will actually take a fresh cup of coffee with me to sip at while letting lather sit, have the mp3 player going with some external speakers, once in a while I even match some incense to the products I'm using if it's been particularly stressful. I'll also reapply some pre-shave oil between each pass. With that it's just a matter of the favorite products, razor, and blade.

I tend to have bad days with alarming frequency these days. What I like to do is wait until I get off of a late watch in the middle of the night so I can take my time and be at peace. Once out of a hot shower I apply Proraso pre/post while I prepare the rest of my routine. Then I will overload my brush and whip up a mean face lather, which I will then massage into my beard by hand. Then I rinse off with hot water and re lather to begin a slow 3 pass shave rinsing after each stroke. Once I am done with the shave I will splash on some AV or Proraso green then go back in for a cold water rinse. By the time I am done I have traded roughly 30 min of sleep for utter relaxation, and I do it again and again.

Sounds really nice to me :thumbup1:

I pamper myself with a large bottle of Special brewed dark stout beer before my shower, and will then proceed to either drink another bottle just after my shave or a big dark hefty glass of red wine.
Also I really enjoy listening to music during my shave - it can be anything from R&B, HipHop, Jazz, Blues, Rock or even some of the better electronic. I just feel like my shave becomes even better and I relax even more during my shave, when I use music and either beer or red wine as crucial elements of the pre shave, during the shave and after the shave routine :straight:
