B&B Hidden Membership Fee

I went back and tallied up how much I have spent in the last two months on shaving gear since coming to this site. It wasn't pretty.

Does B&B have a dividends rewards program by any chance... or a counselor?

Good news is a Dirty Bird 1.5 is finding a new home fresh from the oven. That's the silver lining. Think of all the gear you provide a home to. Afterall, someone has to think of the razors...

I've got about $100 in the last few weeks. Will probably spend a bit more, then go into hiding for a while.

There's an Enablers Anonymous group - we call it a Sabbatical, but you have to either be insane to do it, or have been so insane in your purchases that you need to stop the insanity. So it's not for everyone. :)

It would be nice if we could enter a B&B code at supporting retailers and then B&B would get a small percentage back. I'd take that over a small discount any day, nice to keep the community going :)

You can't lump all shaving gear AD's together. I tell myself that Vintage RAD's don't count since I consider them an investment. So far, my spending on other gear is quite reasonable.

yeah, see... in a few to six months, you'll taper down to what you really like, and use up what you've got, maybe sell off some of what you don't like. for a while. maybe.

want to spend some real money? try straights. quality, big named vintages, or customs.

I'd just like to take a moment to honor the awesomeness that the name Tipsy McStagger brings.

Now go back to realizing how far down the rabbit hole this thing goes

I just started a couple of weeks ago. Should I try the sabbatical now, and get my own failure to comply out of the way?

Shavers, soaps, brushes etc. will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of No Shavers, soaps, brushes etc.

In a few months you'll taper off. Then you'll find the Fragrance forum and start purchasing $300 bottles of Creed.

After you spend a couple thousand there you'll taper off. Then you'll find the Haberdashery forum and start collecting Allen Edmond shoes.

After you spend a couple thousand there . . .

I've tapered off a bit, only because it was getting out of control. And yes straights can get pricey but I love that rabbit hole.

After my initial purchases of brush, stand, razor, and bowl I have kept a lid on it pretty well. I set myself up for success by allowing myself the same budget I used when cart shaving. For 19 months I have operated under budget. May spend the surplus at some point, but won't feel bad about it.

Under budget, are you insane! We may have to ban you from B&B, you'll make us all look bad:biggrin1:

I found myself, the first couple of years here, going crazy on all sorts of stuff. Now however things have calmed down, and I have pretty much what I need and use. Now I only purchase when I need to, but I am aware that the AD's can suddenly appear at any time.

Jay, I am still very new at this. As I branch out more and start to experiment my strategy will be altered to management of the AD's just like everyone else. Don't worry, I will join the dark side soon.
