I need some input on Silvertip vs. D01 3-band. I have a 23mm D01 set at 48 loft, fan shape. Fantastic brush. I want a bigger knot, and I like D01, but it's so expensive. How would a silvertip compare, let's say bulb shape, 28mm at 50 loft? I don't mind giving up a bit of backbone for soft tips, but don't want anything less facelather worthy than a Thater. You know what I mean?

I haven't decided.
In the "experts select" ordering part of their site they don't seem to offer a loft below 54 with a 28 knot. That's not to say they wouldn't make it up if you send a request (as you can see below which is 26-50). The D01 3-band below has almost as much backbone as the 2XL. I don't have a picture and it's out on loan, but my Shavemac Silvertip bulb has a more radical shape that I think is closer to the Thater bulb where the outer bands of hair are much shorter. That said, I don't know if the various shapes I have with my Shavemacs are by design depending on hair type, or just manufacturing variances.I think if you're able to spec the shorter loft the silvertip would be fine and offer plenty of backbone.
