I wanted to share a place to find some vintage razors and hones here in Atlanta, GA. There is no reason for me to keep this to myself since I can't have it all.
The Place: Scott's Antique Market in the outside vendors lot
Where: Atlanta, GA
Who: An older gentleman named Ted
Scott's Antique Market feels like a flea market with a large number of vendors. I met Ted when I saw that he had a large number and variety of DE and SE razors. Normally I see maybe one or two in a booth but he had more than 15 all jumbled together.
When I inquired about straight razors he pointed out a few to me and then asked me if I was interested in hones. Now I don't know much about straight razors or hones other than I love to look at all of the shave porn on this site. Ted said he went through a period where he collected hones so he proceeded to show me a variety of Arkansas, Belgian, German and what to me would be "mystery" hones. He mentioned he had even more at home that he would have to go through.
I told Ted how there is a large vintage shave community online and he just shook his head. Turns out he does not have internet nor does it sound like he is all that interested in going online. He was very pleasant to talk to and definitely enjoyed talking about items that he once collected.
Ted says he is located in the same spot in the outside vendors lot outside the South building of the market. He is in the second to last row closer to the South building. Ted has a large white beard and his booth is set up in a rectangular shape with glass table cases on the tables under a tent. If you live in the Atlanta, GA area and are hunting for razors or hones you should check him out.
Here are some of the things I purchased from him.
The straight is stamped "MOHAWK" and is a Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co, Germany (there is also a "0" stamped after the brand but I don't know what that would indicate).
Happy hunting!
