Did old school barbers shave atg?.and was it common for guys that owned their own straight's to do the same? Or was the straight razor just the only available, effective means of removing several days or weeks growth with a couple of wtg,xtg passes?
The barber's textbooks recommended against it, but did mention that the barbers should be prepared for customers that would insist on it. My barbers have continued recommending against it to this day, even with cartridge razors.
I don't know what the average man would have done each morning, though.
A barber stretches your skin better than you can yourself. This together with the hot towel treatment done by an expert is certainly close enough for me. I wouldn't want the barber to go atg, it would be totally unnecessary.
