Astra Superior Platinum DE vs Astra Superior Stainless DE

Hi

I normally use the Astra Superior Platinum DE blades. How would the Astra Superior Stainless DE blades compare to them? Would they still be less sharp than the Feather DE blades?

Thanks

You have to try them because of the YMMV thing.
I like them both, no irritations at all from both, they just feel "different". Though, for me nothing has beat the smoothness of Gillette Silver Blue blades so far (which I like more than Feather blades, which means a lot).
Nothing sharper than a Feather.
(and @ OP):
How do you define sharpness?

Personally there's a night and day difference between the two. Whereas the SP (Green) is sharp enough and smooth, the SS (Blue) gives a rougher shave. Tends to tug a bit too.

The only thing I've found as smooth (and maybe smoother) than the GSB's have been the Voshkods. I get every bit as good a shave from them, and they are considerably cheaper than the GSB's. My last 100 card was $12 plus shipping. They are a bit harder to find, but worth the search.

OP. I have only tried the SP's, but in general I find plain stainless blades not as smooth on my skin.....regardless of brand. Now, everyone's skin is different and your skin may love the stainless. I just like a blade with some sort of coating on it.

All I know is the one time I did try a Feather it seems exceptionally smooth and there were no nicks and the beard just shaved off with no tugging.

Then the pain began. About 5 or 10 minutes after the shave I had this excruciating raw pain on my face. I swear it was like a layer of skin was removed. I had to race down the street to buy some Nivea Post Shave Balm to help ease the pain, which it did.

That was about 2 or 3 years ago and I haven't tried a Feather since. I supposed I could try one again, now that I have more experience with DE shaving, but I don't know if I really could.

I had my first Astra SS shave tonight (had plenty of SP shaves). loaded a new bladed into my Progress 510 set to 3 for a 2/3pass shave (2 on neck, 3 on face).

what a great shave! BBS all the way.

I personally like the Astra SS ( I have about 700 on hand). The Astra SP are smoother but I fine the Astra SS a little sharper. I think think are both a good blade.

Same here, I find SS a little better but not by much, I have more SS in my stockpile than SP.

I love the shave I get from my Merkur 34c (HD) and an Astra SP blade. Three shaves ago, I found myself very happy again with the results of that combination.

Earlier today, I got a mediocre shave out of a different blade on the 34c. So this evening I decided to swap blades around between my two razors and my "on deck" blade. I loaded the "on deck" Astra SP blade into the 34c, closed it up...... and then noticed the words through the slits in the razor...... I opened it up again just to be sure. Yep! I had shaved with an Astra SS without even realizing it.

So I guess that means I can't tell much difference between the two. Both have given me excellent results.

I ordered both, and am half a week through the SS. So far, I like better than previous blades (Blue Bird and Derby). Will load up the SPs next week and we'll see.

In general, I don't like Stainless Steel blades. The coatings help to smooth it out and provide a better shave.

I like the AstraSP ... I haven't tried the AstraKeramic, but I think it would still be better than the plain SS.

SS gives a slightly closer shave than the SP for me. However, not enough to justify the higher cost for the SS. For about the same cost as the SS you can buy Israeli Red Personna which are far superior for me and almost as good as Gillette Silver Blues.

I like both, and I too find the SS a bit sharper and more effective. But it also increases the risk for irritation. An Astra SP in my blue tip SS is about as foolproof as it gets.
