Asking for freebies

Gents, it's bad form to ask for freebies. We have had a number of threads asking for free stuff. Don't ask for free stuff unless you can reciprocate in kind. We have very generous gents on this forum that have no qualms giving away free stuff but you will ruin it when they tire of panhandlers. Carry on.

You know, I couldn't agree more. I'm more than willing to help someone with some blades or samples of different things but it rubs me the wrong way when I see someone asking for people to "PIF" them something.

It is almost like they can't be bothered to navigate the social nuances of the forum and just want to cut to the give me the free stuff part.

Well said. It shouldn't break anybody to at least offer a few bucks rather than asking for something for free. If someone offers it's one thing, but kind of tacky to ask IMO.

Agreed. Not interested in trolling for goodies. I have a few blades I would like to try in the future, but I would prefer to swap some of mine to be fair.

Couldn't agree more...I don't mind sending out a PIF every now and then, but its a bit off putting to see requests for freebies without the offer to pay or trade for something.

Ewwwww I didn't see these requests but I agree it's bad form. I mean a PIF is a way of returning a kindness. Do these people plan on PIFing something themselves?
It's sad that the incredible generosity on this forum should be taken for granted.

Agreed, incredibly bad form. That someone will most always step up and make an offer when one of our members inquires about a particular item never ceases to floor me each and every time it happens, but that sentiment is quickly soured when I see someone blatantly solicit a freebie. Times are tough and shipping isn't free, folks, not to mention the value of the item in question. Expect only information and be appreciative if an offer comes to you, chances are it will when the right person sees it. :thumbup1:

I fully agree, people asking for PIFs totally rubs me the wrong way.

Especially when the items in question don't cost much, and thus the person asking should be able to buy those items outright.

Asking for someone to give you items is bad form, asking for someone to give you items that cost at most a couple of dollars crosses the line into sleaze bucket territory. :001_rolle:001_rolle

Yes...one should never ask for a puck of Williams to be PIFed to them...bad form indeed.

Send me some freebies, dammit! :tongue_sm

As usual, the mods are all over this one. It's over before it began. Move along now.

Really, you guys are fast. Thanks to those members who volunteer to moderate this forum. The environment here would soon start to smell without the diligent work of our moderators.

Asking for swag is demeaning to the incredibly generous people you can find here.

Now is anyone giving away a Le Grelot? I could use one. :tongue_sm

Thank you.

I think the Mods should make up a badge, you know, like the ones marked 'Veteran' or 'Moderator' or 'ShaveWiki'. It should be labeled 'MOOCH' or 'BEGGAR' and hung on the offender for six months or so.

I've made a number of PIF's in the last few years, freely given with only the expectation that the recipient would someday pass on a PIF to another.

I will say the mooch approach is quite shabby.

A few years back, I pif'd a superspeed to a noob with a sob story. Some time later, he pm's me to say that it wasn't as nice as his other superspeeds.

Takes all kinds.

I can beat that:

I PIF'd a new puck of SCS Rose to someone who wanted to try a rose soap and then he had it up on BST. Luckily I caught it and replied to his thread if that was the soap I PIF'd. He later took it down and haven't seen him since:001_smile

Judging from Ouch and AZMarks posts above I just vote we instill a rule that anyone who asks for a PIF gets auto banned.

All in favor?
