Arko and Williams

I agree. Arko is pretty badarse.

Just lathered the Williams. Not bad. Not the greatest. Doesn't like water, had to go back to the puck a few times as well as discharge the brush (I'm trying to coin some lingo, means "squeeze lather out with thumb and forefinger"), but...I did produce a nice quality merigune. Wonder it will taste on this lemon pie?

The Arko cream in a tube is fantastic! Lathers very well and smell nice.

They smell kinda similar to me. Williams is exhibit A for the argument: "Tallow does not a quality soap make" :prrr:

It's all about what gets done with tallow....

Williams might work for some on the board, but in my opinion it is garbage as a shave soap. Far far better products are available, and for not all that much more money.

The scent of Williams, and Arko is similar; however, I don't mind the scent of Arko, but find the scent of Williams to be utterly disgusting.

"Lathers like dishsoap and smells like bugspray!, Gather all the Williams up and toss all your cares away!" That's what we Van der Spice sailors sing aboard the good ship Grand Turk :wink2:

Van Der Spice would be one of the far far better products, for only a little more money. I whipped up a batch today for the first time, and will take it for a spin sometime this week. :tongue_sm

I would not have posted to this thread were it not for all the Williams bashing. Although it as far from the best soap, I think is one of the best inexpensive soaps. I like the smell, just kind of soapy and unpretentious.

For those who want to compare Williams with VDH, I'll just say that I recently threw away a partially used puck of VDH primarily because I can't stand the stench. It smells like cheap perfume to me. I needed to make room in the VDH bowl for my new puck of Provence Sante green tea. A much better use of the space.

I dunno. at $0.99 per stick, I don't think williams comes close to the value of Arko. Plus, arko smells better and creates a significantly better lather, IMHO of course. :)
