Are you giving shave stuff for holiday gifts?

There have been a couple of threads asking what shaving stuff you'd like to receive as holiday gifts, just wondering if any of you folks are giving any shaving stuff too?

I sent my dad a bowl of GFT Limes Shaving Soap this year.

He is still a die-hard Sensor user, but I finally got him using some good lathering products and a brush last year. He was a big Old Spice Lime user back when it was still readily available, and liked the Royall Lyme I sent for Father's Day so I thought the GFT Limes would be a good fit.

Everyone else shows no interest in using the good stuff, so Dad is the only one getting a shave related gift.

Anyone else have a shaving enthusiast on their list?

Yes I am giving my brother Gillette Tech with the triangular base, its in mint condition. Also 100 Astra SS blades, with an Omega brush and cream.

Giving my two brothers starter kits consisting of a Frank Shaving Finest Badger Brush, a puck of VDH soap, and a tube of Real Shaving Co. Cream. Choice of razors is up to them...if they want advice, I'm happy to supply it, but I suspect they'll probably stick with their cartridge razors for now. At least it's a start...:001_smile

Not I. I got my best friend and cousin into the hobby by giving them both a Flare Tip and some soap, but they take care of their own supplies now. I don't personally know anyone besides them who's into wetshaving.

I broached the subject with my son-in-law and my son and they both looked at me as if to say "you gotta be kidding". I am not sure you can lead someone to what amounts to be a hobby without some indication of interest. That being said, I have a few vintage DEs in good shape laying around and the required cache of blades so you never know.

I honestly started DE shaving again because I did not like the idea of churning through plastic disposables and the entire marketing thing with the cartridges. As with more than a few on this board, any thought of reduced consumption of blades is more than made up for with acquisitions of creams, soaps, etc.

It would be interesting to know just how many folks came to enjoy retro-shaving after being introduced by others to try it out.

I hope your gifts are well received and enjoyed.

I gave my Father a vintage Gillette SS, a pack of Derby blades, a Silvertip Badger brush, a tube of Proraso, a 1/4 used puck of MWF as well as a small sample of Italian Floid (Amber). He did pretty good I think. :001_tongu

I am giving my Dad and my father in law each a puck of DR Harris almond soap and a shaving bowl made of a carved coconut shell made by our very own Vijay [stubblefree] in this group. I have one of his bowls that I use for soaps that I pretty much use every day. They are beautiful works of art and very sturdy !!

I wanted to give the fellas I know some good shaving gear this year but they are all die hard electric or canned goop users. Oh well, I tried to save some lemmings to no avail. I feel like good old wet shaving is my little secret gem in my circle of comrades.

I gave a bunch of stuff to my wife to wrap and give to me. I only know one other wetshaver, but he is king of the minimalists using only one DE, one brush, one type of blade and one type of cream. There's nothing I could get him that he would use.

Giving shaving gifts has always backfired.
So other gifts I bought has transpired.
I have no regret
It may put me in debt.
Shaving gifts to myself I desired.

I think I'm going to try and track down a bottle of vintage Old Spice for my grandpa. He loved the stuff according to my mom. I got him a bottle of the P&G Old Spice a while ago and he said he can detect a slight difference in the scent. If I find one I'm going to give him one of my Old Spice decanters I have sitting around. I figure it will go well with the Schick Injector he bought a month ago!

I'm going to teach my wife how to DE shave with brush and cream/soap etc her legs. Currently she does the mach3 in the shower thing. We can just share equipment for now.

I already gave my bro and a friend at work each a boar brush with some creams and soaps.

A white Edwin Jagger porcelain shaving bowl for my Dad, and a Muhle R89 with a pack of Personna Platinum reds for my very good friend who has silently and unwittingly suffered the misfortune of using scrofulous, inferior products for many years. That's the exact same setup I swear by and as he has similar coarse beard hair and sensitive skin - it should hopefully work for him too.
