Are we really saving money or we just enjoy shaving more?

I know many of you guys collect razors and have quite a collection, after adding up all the cost of razors do you really think we save money? I mean each razor costs on an average $50-60 and some of us have more than a few, so how are we saving money compared to buying cartridge razors??

Do we think is more luxury rather than actually saving money by buying all these razors? I mean for a lot of us Gillette cartridges do give good shave but not as good to feel in hand.

Uhh ... my Vintage DE razors average cost is under $20 - my Vintage SE razors average cost is under $15 -I'm Cheap!

(I only have about 3 dozen razors, probably 350/400 blades, etc ... I buy 100 blades between $12-$25 USD.)

My setup wouldn't be described as Luxury ... I like ARKO, Omega, Clubman, Avon, etc...

Am I saving money? Naw! Am I finally enjoying shaving and looking forward toward some new exciting purchase - YES!

Fact, right before I got on B&B and got my first DE razor - LORD L6-, I bought an Electric Shaver ... I hated shaving so much!

Long Live Wet Shaving ... Long Live Badger & Blade!

Save money? Not me!
Actually the truth is I've tried just about everything out there (yeah OK, not really) and now I'm enjoying going minimal.
I have the one DE that I like (even though it happens to be a Rhodium plated Toggle) and only a few brushes.
I'm getting down to just the few soaps that I like and I find I'm not reaching for the straights as much as I used to (am I getting lazy?)

What was the original question?
Oh, saving money?
I guess you eventually get to the point where you can save money. The real question is: do you want to save money?

I am sure I got a nice deal on my vintage combo coti..but its needed to rehone my razors (suffered with jean stropping for months)..lol before getting a lender from a friend and now sent it back

Funny, a friend and I were just discussing it. I just calculated that I average about $30 a day in purchases, so yes, I'm saving money. Compared to a heroin habit.

if you really want to save money get a good electric shaver or go get some straight razors. This is a pure hobby and to collect so we shall not save money. Up till now ive spent over 400$ for my razors and im ok with it. And ill probably spend more in the future

My most expensive razor was $35. And I've bought more than a couple for under $5. So it doesn't have to be an expensive hobby. If you can keep the various ADs in check (and avoid The Nib forum), you can probably spend less than a few hundred dollars for a lifetime of shaving enjoyment. Cheap entertainment, IMO.

Saving money?!! That's a good one. Coming from an electric, to over 30 razors, 10 mugs, 12 brushes, 16 soap sticks, 4 tubs of Proraso and Omega, 6 pucks of assorted soaps,, 5 tubes of cream, 1500 blades, not to mention the counseling I will have to get over the OCD and Acquisition Disorders I have picked up, yeah I'm saving lots of money.

i've spent more on DE razors since getting into them less than a year ago, than i spent on the previous 15 years shaving with cartridge type's, but it's nice to want to shave instead of having to shave.

This is what it is all about for me. I have maybe a dozen razors, most new as I am not trying to build a collection or museum. I don't mind spending a reasonable amount, I live fairly modestly, I don't smoke, I don't drink to excess but I do like little luxuries to look forward to and this includes the luxury of enjoying my normal daily activities.

To the extent that messing about with shaving stuff keeps me away from test driving luxury cars or trying on expensive watches it could theoretically be saving me a lot of money. As a means or removing hair from my face, it is absurdly expensive compared to a cheap electric razor. Even so, I consider it to be a good investment as a quality of life issue.

Let's see
I went sample crazy on the creams, and don't care for most. I use few creams with any regularity

I went sample crazy on soaps and only ordered a couple. I need to work through my remaining samples too. I rotate through 6 or so

I have 8 shave ready straights, and several more needing levels of "restore" done to them.

I have only a couple dozen DE blades, and 4 DE razors, 1 SE, and I just ordered a black handle super adjustable off ebay, hoping it is my birth year (if not it is going to a friend)

I can talk about hones and the 2 coticules, black Arkansas on the way, and other expensive "rocks" I have. They cost the same as jewelry but you get slightly bigger pieces!

I completely forgot brushes! 3 TGN badger, 2 boar, I don't have many.

This is for fun, not saving money.

Phil

I've never used a cartridge razor so have no comparison.

Started with DE and had no interest in anything else until B&B then more DEs to try....

Then straights to try.....

Then SE to try.....

Still no interest in cartridge razors though.
