All of the Clubman aftershaves I am familiar with are alcohol based splashes. They have made some balms in the past, but 99% of Clubman users here I surmise use the splashes. This would include Clubman, Pinaud Bay Rum, Lilac Vegetal, Clubman Vanilla, etc.
Also Pinaud Eau de Quinine and Eau de Portugal which are marketed as hair tonics are the same as the aftershaves as far as composition and they, too make excellent aftershaves. Certainly worth investigating if you are Pinaud testing...

My original Clubman says "after shave lotion" but my special reserve says "after shave cologne". The original is a splash, the special reserve is also a splash, but lasts long enough that it pretty much is a cologne.

Pinaud uses the term "lotion" but it's not lotion like Vasaline Intensive Care lotion or an "aftershave balm." That's probably where you getting confuzzled. It's a liquid. You splash it on and go WHOOO!!!

ClubmanRob has gone missing? What's up with that?
It's a long story which I don't know very much about, but I believe that after a post by ClubmanRob about the Grammys in another sub-forum that struck the mods as too political, he's off of B&B for some unspecified time.
I'd like to stress here that I know VERY little about what went on, and apologize in advance if I have mis-stated or will mis-state anything here. About the only things that I am sure of are that ClubmanRob is no longer at B&B, and that it was not his choice.
That said, I'd like to use this platform to respectfully ask that mods to review the posts in question, revisit their decision, and offer the membership an explanation of the situation. Although I am a relative newbie here at B&B, I have found ClubmanRob to be unfailingly very friendly and polite and to offer accurate and insightful opinions. He was the first member to reach out to me when I joined B&B, has been instrumental in the revival of the North Carolina social group, is the promoter if not discoverer of the now-famous Ivy Club clone of Old Spice, and his knowledge of all things Pinaud is without peer.
For me, and I'm sure for many others, ClubmanRob was B&B at it's best: welcoming, engaging, funny, incredibly knowledgable about this arcane field and happy to share his experience with others, regardless of their relative standing. I never found him to be anything less than a true gentleman, in the tradition of B&B.
I believe that I have found and read the posts in question, and although I am not privy to any PM's that were sent or received about this issue, from what I read I did not see adequate reason to ban ClubmanRob from B&B. Perhaps the mods could use this request as occasion to offer an explanation of their decision elsewhere on B&B. If such a thread already exists and I am unaware of it, please direct me to it, and thanks and apologies.
I'd like to stress that none of the above is meant to cast dispersions or impugn any of the B&B mods in the slightest. I can only imagine all the work that it entails to be a mod for this burgeoning site, and have nothing but respect for all of their often-unseen work. You guys do a great job, and the fact that B&B exists at all is due to you guys. Thanks!
Finally, I'd like to apologize for hijacking this thread, but I didn't know how to best bring up this issue. If any mod thinks this post is best put elsewhere, feel free.

I don't know if any of you checked, but ClubmanRob is still listed as a member of this site. Now I'm not privy to any more details than any of you, but it's my understanding from talking to a few other members, and also from piecing things together myself, that Rob left of his own accord. That's about all I know, but I'm fairly certain that he wasn't permanently banned, if he was even banned at all in the first place. But let's not speculate on such issues. If anything happened between Rob and any of the moderators, then that's their business and their business alone.

well I'm not making any assumptions or pointing any fingers on this one. It is what it is.
as I said.. bummer. Our loss.
I personnaly use Pineaud aftershaves as body splash, they are too irritant for me as aftershave.
If what you say is true then I am mistaken and apologize for my remarks. As with many things, rumors can abound and I did not mean to stir things up unnecessarily with speculation. Mods, please delete my post if you think it's best.

Why apologize? You simply asked about a member being censored or banned, thats a fair question. Obedience to the authority of the mods means you can't even ask a question? Censorship and banishment of members is a BB community issue and we can talk about it and many have even in other shaving forums.
Absolutely not. Quite to the contrary. We welcome it. The members are always to free to make an inquiry if they feel compelled to do so.
As to the issue broached by John (Wingnut), out of respect for ClubmanRob's privacy, his reasons for leaving B&B are between ClubmanRob and B&B mods. He has not been banned from the site and is welcome here anytime. He was fine member of this community and we wish him the very best.
