Aquascutum brand

can anyone shed anymore light on this company and its reputation? I came across an Aquascutum herringbone sport coat the other day at the thriftstore and it was only $9. the lining had the Aquascutum logo and Cedrics stitched on the lining. it looked quite nice but it felt a little big for my torso. i'm tempted to go back and have it tailored.

I bought one suit from Aquascutum in 2002 that I still wear and has held up beautifully. IIRC, their name stems from some type of treatment on their fabric that makes it water resistant or something along those lines. I like my suit, but the store that i bought it from doesn't carry it anymore for whatever that's worth...

Aquascutum is tops. A family friend gave me an Aquascutum overcoat when I was assigned to Korea in the mid-60's; it's still going strong. Would probably cost a thousand dollars to replace it.

My father has a cashmere scarf from them I believe...was quite a nice one...i.e. unless I got the brand wrong!

I went back to the thriftstore to have another look at the coat and decided to pass on it. even if I had decided to buy it and have it tailored the buttons seemed too far down on the coat -- it's as if the former owner was some frumpy humpty dumpty type with a giant belly. nice coat though
