Appointments in Cincinnati

I was in Cincinnati on vacation visiting my parents and stopped by Appointments. If you live in the area you really owe it to yourself to check out the store! I tried several pens out, and he was helpful even after I explained the budget was tight due to back to school. He did not hesitate to pull out the pens and ink. He was very helpful and apparently does lay away as well. There was a huge selection of pens, including Mountagrappa,(sp?) Pelican, Pilots and so many my head was spinning. I did actually buy a Lamy with a 1.5 nib, but returned it as I could not justify it during back to school week. I picked up a bottle of Waterman's blue, and Diamine Chocolate. I love the Chocolate but have yet to try the Waterman. I am sad in some ways that I do not have a close store like this, but in other ways very happy! The store is full retail, but he gives service that warrants it.

Now half as wise
Having a brick and mortar store nearby is really a mixed blessing, but I would encourage anyone just getting into fountain pens to try to visit a store. There really is nothing else like trying a pen out. They may not let you ink a $8oo LE Delta, but you can certainly compare most brands and "levels". Until you write with a $300 pen compared to a $50 pen it really is hard to know the difference.
