What's new

Apple TV....

....is the boon to watching youtube shaving vids! It's nice to be able to sit back on the couch and watch 'em on the 'ol 52".

So far I've subscribed to these:

http://www.youtube.com/user/mantic59

http://www.youtube.com/user/geofatboy

http://www.youtube.com/user/PaulHFilms (underrated in my view)

http://www.youtube.com/user/Shaveology

Are there any other ones I can add? Doing a search on youtube seems to mainly come up with mantic59 & geofatboy (both brilliant BTW...but I'm always looking for diverse techniques)

There's another way to watch them on the ol 52".

Get a laptop, plug HDMI cable from laptop into TV, change video outputs.

Bonus being that you aren't forced to use a Apple product. ;)

I love my appletv. Best thing ever bought for my entertainment center. Even better now that I jail broke it.

I watch the videos on my iPhone or on our flat-panel TV connected to our Mac Mini. My youngest son (and recent convert to DE shaving) and I sometimes watch them together on the TV.

We now have only cable Internet, wifi, and cell phones. We ditched cable TV and home telephones long ago...

Everyone please go out and buy an Apple TV to help boost your shaving skills... author owns lots of shares ;)

Yeah the Apple TV is super slick; teeny tiny footprint, 1080p, fully tapped in to Netflix, YouTube, movie rentals, streaming of all your movies, music and TV, with just a power cord and one clean HDMI cable. It's set up on my Harmony remote, so it doesn't even require an extra remote on the coffee table! Also has AirPlay so you can bounce anything from an iPad, iPhone, iPod, iMac, or MacBook from anywhere in the house, and for 100$ you have a crazy powerful little device. I can start a movie in the TV room, bounce it uninterrupted to my iPad it the kitchen while making snacks, Then bounce it again uninterrupted to the family room in the basement, all without missing a beat. That kind of tight integration is very impressive, and empowering to the user.

As far as bang for the buck goes, it's punching way, way above its weight. Crazy that Apple still calls this line a "hobby"! It's a lot of fun.

Yes I like many Apple products, but it's only because I'm a huge fan of exceptional engineering, design, and execution, and they happen to have a number of products and systems that scratch that itch. You'd only need to see my collection of sunglasses, watches, footwear, bikes, tools, guitars, amplifiers, etc to see this affliction fully expressed... :)

I use my Blu-ray player, it's already hooked up to my TV anyway, it works great and most importantly..it's not Apple.

+ 1. I tried the laptop/home PC thing hooked to the TV. Too much hassle. Apple TV no fuss no muss. Also have a Roku for Hulu and Amazon.

...and most importantly..it's not Apple.

That always makes me sad... I use what works best for the application at hand, regardless of the brand name, and I make recommendations based on the same criteria. I'm surprised to find that sort of thinking here on this board, where to date I've seen mostly open minded people sharing ideas and making recommendations based on what works. Here, I would expect "most importantly" to be followed by "it works better than anything else I've tried".

I was an anti-Apple snob for years, until I tried some of their products. I use the best tool for the job, and I'm not too proud to change my opinion when faced with evidence that my previously held opinions were wrong. I've seen many of these types of threads devolve into Apple bashing and lowest common denominator knee jerk back-and-forths, it's just sad to see such narrow minded thinking on what previously seemed such an open-minded, intelligent community.

There is nothing narrow minded about it, I have tried various Apple products over the years and to me all have been "decent" products with price tags 2-4x that of other "decent" products that can achieve the same results. I will admit AppleTV is nice and moderately priced for what it can do, which is very surprising for Apple.

Ah, it sounded like the broad sweeping generalizations I hear so much elsewhere, I didn't realize you were speaking to your own situation. Apologies. There is certainly variety enough out there for everyone to find what they're looking for based on their wants, needs, priorities, and budgets.

I've certainly found that the Apple products that have made their way in to my daily life far exceed the quality, functionality, and usefulness of the many alternatives I have sampled, but again it all comes down to individual needs and tastes. And that's not to say i think that every Apple product is superior to any alternative; far from it (MobileMe? :scared:). I just use whatever best meets my needs.

The great thing about this board is that so many people are of a like mind in their search for quality and efficacy, and so willing to help share their findings. I love it!
