AOS Unscented Pre-Shave Oil

Hi All! I received a trial pack of AOS's Unscented line this weekend and man was I blown away by the pre-shave oil! I was expecting it totally unscented, but I think the problem is that it would then smell like oil, which is what they were trying to avoid. So they decided to add some sort of botanicals and/or light scents that smell like Chai. I have read a review somewhere on this forum where someone describes it as vile or something to that nature, but I completely disagree. To me, it smells so nice that it actually soothes me, calms me down and wakes me up at the same time. It is just wonderful! I was a little disappointed that the shaving cream and ASB didn't smell the same way. In fact, they are indeed "unscented."

Based on the way the unscented, pre-shave oil smells, I am highly contemplating buying it in the full sized version and using it with some other non-AOS products such as Proraso or C.O. Bigelow shaving cream. Lastly, I think I have an idea for AOS: they should come up with a Chai scented line to complement the other 3 (being the lavender, lemon and sandalwood). I would be the first to line up to buy this!!!

I was general unimpressed with the scent. Although don't abhor the scent, but it certainly is not unscented as advertised. The biggest problem with the product for me (which I have gone back and used again, confirming my initial suspicion) is it is worse than any other method of pre-shave preparedness: even worse than doing nothing at all. I would contend you simply try using hair conditioner and see it it yield's the same effect. This, in my short research, seems to be one of the better of method's of pre-shave.

You can read my review here.

If you can't already tell from my original post, I love the "smell" of it and also for me it works very well so I have no reason to try anything else like hair conditioner. I use maybe 250uL of the oil per shave (only a few drops). Some folks who experience it gunking up everything probably are using way to much. My skin feels smooth and well moisturized after with no irritation. My skin never looked as good. Anyways, judging from the lack of responses to this thread, I'm assuming it's not a very popular product.

I believe that my first real shave with a brush was when I got the AOS starter kit. I used the pre-shave once, but found that (for me) it didn't do much, and I really did not like the thick consistency of it. A friend of mine, however, has had favorable results with it. I cannot comment on the scent, since I bought the sandalwood set (and I think my friend got the lavender). So... I guess I don't have anything useful to contribute after all. Sorry!

Yeah, I got a sample of it and ended up buying the big bottle. It works pretty well I actually like the heavy feel of it, also like their shave balm. I stopped in an AOS and was checking out their different scents. My nose was not working that day and I couldn't smell a damn thing except the lemon. The sales person put a little of the sandalwood oil on my wrist and just couldnt smell it. I left the mall and on my way home I couldnt figure out what that delicious smell was! It was my wrist. I ended up going back and buying the shave cream. To be totally honest. I wish I bought the shave oil as even though their shave cream is good, it is not as good as proraso. (but damn it smells better!) I figured out how to elevate this, shave with proraso and bought the sandalwood cologne

Unscented is not the same as scent free. Unscented means that no parfum or other agents have been added to give a product a particular odor. The ingredients in AOS pre-shave oil have a natural scent of their own, but AOS does not add anything to the oil to give it a particular scent.

I hope this makes as much sense when you read it as it did when I wrote it.
