Anyone with a strict blade changing routine?

Hi Chums!
Anyone out there with a strict blade changing routine?
I've been considering it, but haven't matched up the right blades.
I was thinking about something like this:

Monday: Astra Blade 1
Tuesday: Astra Blade 1 day 2
Wednesday: Astra Blade 2
Thursday: Astra Blade 2 day 2
Friday, Sat and Sunday: Personna Med Prep use for 3 days (something sharp for the weekend)

It's only a thought.
I'm an old fellow and I need my routines !!! lol :001_rolle

Not me. I only use Gillette 7 o'clock SharpEdge (Yellow), I use them three times then chuck them...that's it.

To each his own though.

Actually I've used those Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellows for the first time this week! And I am very impressed with them!
(They might have to got into my routine :wink2:)

Since I learned--from B&B members--excellent prep and technique, I get 7 really nice shaves from Yellows (despite my tough chin hair). The same with Perma-sharp Supers (made in the same factory: maybe a tad less sharp but maybe a tad smoother). I could possibly go even longer with them, but there's no good reason to do so.

Sounds like a strict blade changing routine to me.

I just use a blade until I get the feeling that it is time to change it.

I pop a new blade in every Monday morning. Depending on how much I shave during the week I'll get 3-6 shaves per blade, usually 4-5. That way, I don't have to keep count or keep track.

While I've been experimenting with blades I've changed them religiously after 2 shaves, to make sure I was comparing the best of each blade. Now I'm settled with Feathers I'll try stretching that to 3 or 4 shaves and see how it goes, although I reckon I can stand the extra few pennies to carry on changing every other shave if I'm not happy.

I only use two types of blades, Derby or Wilkinson Sword from Wal-Mart. I get 7 quality shaves and change my blades on Saturdays.

I dump any blade I use after 2 shaves. They are cheap enough that it keeps my shaves excellent and I know what to expect - I don't have to push them to the point where I don't know if it needs changing. Simple as pie.

That seems like a good idea! Usually on the 3rd day shaving with a blade, I'm thinking how much better it was on the 1st and 2nd day. You're right! most blades are cheap! 2 days ...then throw the blade... sounds a good routine to me!!!

Great post. I am in the process of developing a routine, after yesterday pushing my 7 0'Clock Sharp Edge one shave past time to change.

So far, I am working on three days each with Gillette 7 O'Clock Sharp Edge (Yellow) and Silver Blue.

Mandina - what exactly are you doing in prep that's extending the life of your blades?

I'm a three and done kind of guy. It's been pointed out a few times already, but they're inexpensive enough that I don't feel bad spending somewhere between 3 and 11 cents/shave depending on the blade.

I think he's suggesting that it's more about the skin prep than the equipment - you could have the sharpest blade in the world but if you haven't wet and lathered your skin sufficiently it will be a terrible shave.

Three for the face, one for the head, and into the bank with it. I don't really see much point in pushing a blade past that point.

It's three and out for me, no matter what blade it is. Seems like waste, I know, especially with blades like SI's. But, since I only shave three times a week, I'm still just using one blade a week.
