What's new

Anyone try the new Coate's yet?

I tried it yesterday and really liked it. Used a VERY small amount of product for face lathering and it whipped up a very dense lather once I got the water ratio right. Looking forward to the rest of the line-up when it gets released.

I've used it a few times now. I haven't worked out the right proportions to get the lather right yet but it's very rich. The tea tree smell is interesting.

I don't get a burning sensation/redness from products too often, so I'm juhst guessing. Some of Mama Bear's soaps have done it, but that's probably because they're loaded with FO's. I can only guess I may be allergic to something in the Coate's.

In other news, I took the sticker off the top of the tub because mine was unevenly applied, and it turns out the cream came in an old tub for Coate's Lime.

I have used mine a few times and it is great stuff. There is a bit of a tingle but I attribute that to the tea tree. I get the same feeling when I use tea tree antiseptic on my skin. I found I needed very little to make beautiful slick lather.

Here is an image of the left over lather from my first shave. I only used a small amount from underneath the lid.

Yeah apparently they're all old Coate's tubs :biggrin1:

I think I'll apply some tomorrow without the brush and see. I sure hope I'm not allergic to it because I seriously don't have the money to throw away on creams that I can't use. I bought some Proraso pre/post cream too and I've yet to be convinced that that was a good purchase.

I've used my tub once, and enjoyed it well enough. I also got a slight tingle, but my face didn't burn or anything. It made plenty of slick lather very quickly.

Here are the ingredients from the tub:

The pic is pretty blurry, so I figure I'll type them out here as well.
Ingredients: Aqua, Stearic Acid, Myristic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Coconut Acid, Glycerin, Triethanolamine, Parfum, Sodium Hydroxide, Melaleuca Alternifolia Extract (TeaTree Essential Oil), Amyl Cinnamal, Linaloolf, HexylCinnamal.

I'd also like to say that I used this stuff again for the second time this morning. It lathered up almost by itself, even with my cheap-o brush. The tea tree oil has a very interesting on my face, an almost menthol-like tingle but without the slight numbness.

Smells great but I find the tea tree subdued and almost hijacked by the rosemary which I find both medicinal. Save your money is my advice and wait for the true scents to come out. Its no better than any other quality cream IMO. Basically I wouldnt go out and buy it and pretty much everyone will agree.

-1 I do not agree at all. The subtle blend of fragrances is delightful. I have the legacy Coates Teatree also and find the addition of rosemary to be a real enhancement, but that's what makes horse racing. Glad I did not take your advice.

I'm going to have to disagree. I've been trying my creams out lately and Coates is definitely one of the best. The scent is one of my favorites, if not the favorite, and the cream lathers like a beast. For $20 and the size it comes in, I would say it is a really good deal. I am glad I went out of my way and bought it.
