Anyone tried Head Slick?

I use soaps but my local Publix has this for $6 so I thought about giving it a try. I have one concern, it is mentholated and I'm wondering if that can interfere with how my face feels the blade. That kind of feedback is especially important as I am still developing my shaving technique.

Anyone out there with experience using this stuff?:confused1

I use it for shaving my head, but I have not tried it with a DE on my face yet. It provides a nice, slick lather and while it is mentholated, the menthol kick is not extreme. I feel it is a high quality brushless cream, but let us know what your opinion is if you try it out with a brush.

I use it for my head as well. Don't really get any sort of menthol tingle or anything, but provides a great slick cushion.

Used it exclusively from when I switched to the Fusion and started shaving my head in 2006 until I switched to "traditional" shaving in late 2011.

Good stuff. A little goes a long way.

But $11 for a bottle? Not worth it.
And if you add it to your rotation and it gets to be more than a month or so old, it starts to congeal or crystallize and develops hard lumps.

I used to use it for my head with carts, and then just started using it on my face, too. Thought it was great, way better than any canned gel, and enjoyed the very mild menthol. I wouldn't think you'd want to use it with a brush, though.

Agreed. It is very slick, but I think the lather is too light for a brush and it would end up being wasteful.

I hate to be the dissenting voice here, but unless I use it with a brush (and I only use it on my head) I find the lather is one of the worse I've ever used. The menthol is weak, and the only reason I've kept using it despite it turning grainy as mentioned above, is so I can finish it off. I wouldn't buy it again, nor would I recommend it to anyone else.

YMMV as always....

Being 42 I might be new to using d/e but I'm not new to shaving. I've tried many other gels and creams over the years but Head Slick's been working for me. Only a nickel sized dollop and a drop or two of H2O and it cup lathers well and brushes up fine.

I use it fairly often, usually as part of a superlather. It's a permanent part of my rotation. If you live near a Publix, it's $6 for a bottle, which is a pretty good deal.

I use this stuff as a pre-shave. I rub it in and let it sit while I'm preparing my lather. I think it helps when used like that. I wouldn't use it as a primary lather. I picked up sever bottles when the local Publix had them on sale for $3 each.
