Anyone tried Bulletproof coffee?

The idea is fine and I've drank it. Just don't buy their "special bullet proof" coffee. Any high quality bean will do. This means you won't be buying it though from places like the grocery store, second cup or starbucks. You'll need to go to a real coffee place and get high quality beans.

Baring that I use the local grocery store no name bean and it's fine, not as good mind you but hey you do what you can with what you have.

I drink my coffee black so I don't usually put grease in like half-n-half. I will however, have a cup of coffee with a plate of bacon, eggs and hash browns - plenty of good quality grease there. I'm kind of old fashioned when it comes to drinking coffee and eating breakfast. Each to his own.

In addition to being old fashioned, I am also highly suspicious and when I see a slick marketing campaign making health benefit claims by merely consuming product, coupled with selling the overpriced, everyday common product(s), I usually ignore it.

I have not tried it, but ...

A biogenic amine? Acrylamide forms in coffee when it is processed. I imagine there is some way to reduce the formation of acrylamide by removing oxygen, but this is a guess on my part. If that is part of their process, that’s sweet. This stuff about the antioxidant content of roasted coffee beans is unwarranted because the bioavailability of the chlorogenic acids derived from that source is still mostly unknown at the moment.

I do not use the BP beans, but do drink it some mornings to get some quick calories in before working out at 6:30 am. It's also pretty good at greasing the GI tract so I can get #2 out of the way before working out.

The testimonials in that video would be more convincing if those same people tried regular fresh coffee and compared them head to head. Otherwise it appeared these people may have just tried this one time or for a few weeks. I don't mean to talk down this bulletproof coffee, it may be great, just that the video itself was not convincing, especially the part about adding butter and oil, since that could be added to one's diet separately.

Mr. Asprey does say that the processing of his Upgraded coffee is different, which would have an effect on its flavor, but I doubt there are any extra health benefits. The coffee did look good pouring out of that giant roaster.

Looks to be an ordinary organically farmed, wet processed Guatemalan coffee with a high price tag. The product claims seem unsubstantiated to me.

Maybe a little context could help. Dave Aspery is part of a group of people who have made it it a hobby to try and eek that a couple extra percentages out of their bodies and minds through strict control of what they eat, drink, and go about their days. These people call themselves biohackers. Everyone knows how they feel after eating certain foods that make them feel sluggish or lethargic, whether it's gluten, dairy, sugar etc, etc. If you're totally happy eating these foods go for it, no harm, no foul. Some people see noticeable results when eliminating these problem foods or when sourcing them from non conventional producers. Biohackers look at something and say ask how will this effect me if I do it a different way.

I have not tried the bulletproof beans, my one cup of coffee in the morning serves me fine, but I do use the bulletproof coffee recipe in conjunction with an intermittent fasting regiment as a way to get some calories with out breaking ketosis. I find this helps with short intense workouts while fasted, however with longer endurance type workouts I will usually take some solid foods as my performance is hindered while fasting even with the coffee.

I had my second cup today. Not following to the letter but I guess its paleo. I used unsalted butter and coconut oil. Today I used it only for breakfast and it got me thru church into lunch. I think it may be a good idea for short periods. It was a tasty too. I'm not completely sold on his beans or his MCT oil. That seems like marketing to me. I'll keep it up tho as I need to get back onto more of a paleo diet
