Anyone Suggest a replacement razor?

I recently took a flight to Texas to take my son to visit the grandparents, and on the way back I found the Airline broke my Parker 92r (I think this is right). Anyone suggest a good replacement? I have been wetshaving with it for over a year now, and believe that I have all of the basics down.

There's lots of options!

Fixed:

  • Feather DE. if you like Tech types
  • Muhle R89 / Edwin Jagger 89

Adjustable:

  • Fatboy
  • Superspeed

Is that the only razor you have used then?

Edwin Jagger DE89 is very nice and quite popular, I'm not sure how it compares to the Parker though.

I find myself preferring vintage Gillettes these days. You could pick up a 40's or 50's SS for $10-$20 on the B/S/T depending on condition, sometimes cheaper even.

Could you say something about which characteristics you like or don't like about the 92R?

I have a 91R, but I don't know anything about the 92R. I'm guessing that it's a TTO, since it seems to me that Parker uses even numbers for TTO and odd numbers for 3-piece.

You can try a vintage Gillette (Tech, Super Speed) or a new Lord for not too much money and get a better idea of where you want to go from here. (More or less aggressive, 3-piece vs. TTO, vintage vs. new, long handle vs. short handle, lighter or heavier, etc.)

Sorry to hear the news. Tell you what, just this weekend I purchased a SS and a Slim. Don't need them but the prices were right. Anyway, they are definitely shaver grade- bit of brassing on both. Neither will win a beauty contest but I would bet they can still provide years of good shaves. If you want, just PM me which one you would like and your address.

I started with a three piece Parker. My favorite razors are both vintage Gillettes. I like the TTOs; especially the '40s Superspeed and HD Rocket. They are close shavers and the Superspeed is effortless. The best shaves that I get are with Gillette open combs but they do require a little more concentration than the TTOs. I like them all but the New Improved head (New Standard, Tuckaway etc.) edges out the New head by a whisker.
