I'm intrigued by the knot used for the Semogue 2000, but I'd like to reset that knot to a much lower loft, say to 50-52. Has anyone had any success with this? If so, what was the result?

I have. I enjoy short lofted boars and have a pretty decent size collection. The only down side to shorter lofts is that if you get them too short they don't hold enough soap for multiple passes (should do 2 though). 52MM is very doable. Here is my relofted Semogue 2000, around 53mm if I remember correctly.

The Semogue brushes are all set into a kind of aluminum cup which is visible at the edge of each handle. Without removing the knot from this metal cup it will be difficult to set it any lower. At least the handle (hole) diameter needs to be bigger than the rim and not only as big as the knot diameter if you can't remove the cup. Maybe you can just trim off the metal edge.
