What's new

Anyone remember York Steakhouse?

The last remaining one (sort of*) is on Broad St./Rt. 40 on the west side of Columbus. Great service, great price, killer salad bar, plus a quiet, dimly lit atmosphere with older style music playing...just like walking into a time machine, I kid you not. Loyal customer base, too. It's the wife's and my favorite restaurant. If you're ever out Columbus way, swing by York's and you will not regret it.

*I say "sort of" because what used to be a York's is now called Bradfield's, in a mall in the town of Springfield, about an hour from Columbus. It's undergone minor changes but is essentially the same, though not as good as the Rt. 40 York's. They are the only two left in the whole country, as far as I've been able to learn. I'm still amazed they've survived this long.

Wow. Blast from the past!

There used to be a couple around here. It's probably been almost 25 years since they closed -- a year or two after I graduated from High School.
I remember York being decent and affordable -- since it was in the local mall, my friends and I used to go in there for dinner occasionally when we didn't want typical mall food. I think it was decent -- but I wonder now if I'd still think so. Most chain type restaurants don't do it for me anymore....

According to Wikipedia, "Only one York Steak House restaurant remains in operation in Columbus, Ohio."

[Edit: It's apparently a tough market--I went looking for the fate of Steak and Ale and they went Chapter 7 in July of 2008.]
