What's new

Anybody here seen the movie Primer?

Without a doubt Primer is one of the most engaging and intellectual depictions of the possible paradoxes of time travel I've come across. The fact that it was filmed for around $7000 USD and is pretty much a one man technical tour-de-force on the part of Shane Carruth only adds to the quality of this film. Its backstory is as impressive as what is on the screen. Primer is one of the few DVDs I paid full price for because I wanted to support this man and his work--I thought it was that good.

I first saw part of this movie on the IFC wholly by chance. Primer is one of those movies you don't want to come in on the middle of and is definitely one that, if it captures your interest, will not only reward but almost demand repeated viewings in order to figure the thing out. Definitely not a coke and popcorn sort of flick.

So has anyone else here seen it and what did you think?

Saw it when it came out as well. Great little flick. Another to check out is Time Crimes. A Spanish-language time travel movie that is every bit as good as Primer. Maybe better?

It's in my Netflix queue, but sadly my streaming DVD for the Playstation 3 is not reading, so it may be a while before I get to it...I've heard great things about this movie, so I may just watch it online.

I watched it while doing something else and was totally confused. However, it looked intriguing so I should probably give it another chance when I can give it my full attention.

speaking of shane carruth, when is he coming out with another movie? i'm actually quite surprised he hasn't become the next robert rodriguez - seems like hollywood has no appreciation for new talent that can do films without giant explosions in them

Another low budget movie that is much better than it has any right being is Karma Police.

I liked it, but about 2/3 the way through I started having to work to catch everything (the ramifications, etc.) so I need to go back and watch it again.

Gotta salute a film that is entertaining but still requires some "process" time.

I was running a video-rental store when it came out and immediately recommended it to anyone that has an interest in hard sci-fi. Great movie and well worth the purchase price.

+1

Enjoyed them both. Saw Time Crimes more recently and I think I liked it better, just a bit.
