Any Tisas Experience?

Mucho chatter on various websites/forums regarding the Tisas line of 1911 pistols. Seems the general consensus is they are a LOT of pistol for the money. The WWII military buffs are especially complimentary when discussing the semi-replica models.
I was getting kind of a “too good to be true” vibe about the Tisas pistol offerings overall. Then…..
I stumble on to a sale and a half. Tisas .45 Tank Commander (Cerakote) brand new in box for less than $300.😳
Only thing I could think of is that Tisas is possibly discontinuing the Commander in Cerakote, replacing that model with a Parkerized version. Seems the WWII history fans truly dig Parkerized stuff.
The “too good to be true” tune has gotten a lot louder….but the LGS opens at 9 am.
Anyone have any first hand experience with these Turkish Delights?
I know how the 1911 specimens from Kimber, Ruger (just peachy), and Colt (not so peachy) perform. Never shot a Tisas. For the price here though it’s very, very tempting.

Yes.

Lots of experience with four different models. Utterly reliable, accurate, eat any ammo, work with any makers magazines and I have not had to adjust or upgrade anything but grip panels. Approaching 1000 rounds or more through each version. I did have an issue with the original Tanker that got me to trade it for an old Colt revolver. It has the spur hammer and GI grip safety and the spur of the grip safety bruised the webbing of my hand. I don't have an issue with the GI grip safety on the full size 5" model.

Let me add a few possible negatives.

Tisas is still trying to get the rights to use one of the popular aftermarket sight cuts so changing sights will almost certainly require fitting. The slightly higher cost of the Carry and Duty models really is justified by the much better sights and upgraded beavertail and triggers.

Some people have spoken about needing to adjust the extractors but the pattern I see is that they are quite often folk that immediately take anything new apart and start 'improving'. I have not had to adjust my extractors or found any clocking issues, but then I also don't expect my ejected brass to neatly land back in an empty cartridge box primer side up.

There seem to be more issues with the 9mm versions than the 45s.

They are closely related to potato chips. You can't buy just one.

True dat. I’ll be picking up the Commander Monday. Brought this one home today……

On serial numbers: Turkish guns follow a set pattern with serial numbers. First is the manufacturer code (T0620 == Tisas) then following a dash a two digit year code (21==2021), and alpha internal model code and then the serial number. Looking at the image I'd guess that's a 2021 "Army"

It is a M1911 A1 Govt.

Could not find any reference to that particular model on the Tisas website.

Agreed. I picked up a Carry 9mm awhile ago, and it is extravagant for the price. I just bought a full Duty length upper with the RDS cut to plug-n-play.

Anything mechanical will have a few duds, tolerance stacking with tooling wear, etc., but the consensus is that they are very, very, good. That has been my experience with a sample size of 1, soon to be 1.5.

Fewer differences than I expected. Slightly higher ejection port and a slightly shortened grip safety spur. Looks like it has the wide hammer that was on the earlier -A1s.

Only one not shown is the Tisas 1911 .45 Tank Commander I will be picking up Monday. Jury is still out but if pressed to rate the bunch, I’d say the best overall ordnance of the lot would go to Ruger. Tisas would be a solid runner up, edging Kimber by a sneeze. Colt is surely the most over rated. That rampant pony surely commands a steep tariff. Probably has a $$ brand on its butt.

^ That was the most significant change out on my Carry- adding the Novak/Ruger ambi-safety. I'm a bit surprised Ruger went with what is actually a premium part.

I have the Gi model cerakote I think, 2 mags, think it was 360 ish. Very snug fit, safety is crisp in both directions. I put gi nylon grips after reading they seemed more durable than the OEM ones. Plus gi nylon ones were decently cheap. Seems a bit better than my Rock island but still haven't been to the range.

A buddy of mine worked part-time at the largest gun store in Ohio until recently and we had a conversation over drinks one night and I mentioned I was maybe interested in a Tisas 1911 down the road and he had nothing but high praise for them. He's a 1911 guy himself and said he was really impressed with their quality and that he'd never heard one complaint about them from a customer.

Jury is in....
Entry fee nothwithstandsing this is one of the better 1911 sidearms I have ever shot. Excellent trigger, shot a tad to the left but not enough to fret over, sights were not Novak quality but still competent for what the gun is designed to be. grips had to go, but that's a personal thing.
Picking up another (Commander) next week. Yeah, I think they're that good.
