Any substitutes for Creed Bois du Portugal?

Has any tried a fragrance that could substitute for or is substantially similar to Creed Bois du Portugal, which is simply too expensive for me to purchase in quantity? Thanks for the assistance, gents.

To me, Zino Davidoff is somewhat similar to Guerlain Heritage which is somewhat similar to the Creed, and much less expensive than either. You can get the edt and aftershave splash.

Chanel Pour Monsieur or Patricia de Nicolai New York. Both more complex but far less masculine IMO.

This is a great question, and it makes me wonder if anyone has ever seen a matrix of fragrances that might be titled:

"If You Like This Fragrance, You Might Like _____"

I would be really interesting if the left column down were different fragrances, like Creed Bois du Portugal, and the next columns to the right could be in three different price ranges, and could have multiple fragrancs in each column.

Does this, or something like it, already exist?

I agree that would be an interesting topic....a great departure from endless "what fragrance should I wear when........" threads. I guess someone finds them useful, cuz there are sure a lot of them on BN.

Guerlain's heritage.
Not super cheap, but cheaper.
the accords are similar to the drydown of BDP.
For a more contemporary version of BDP's development (bitter-top, herbal/smoky middle, sweet/dry woods base), try the vastly underrated Hermes Rocabar.

Bois Du Portugal = bitter lavender-->smoky/dark spices-->sweet. dry woods
Hermes Rocabar = bitter cedar needles-->dark spices-->sweet, dry woods

You guys really are fantastic. All of the recommendations sound interesting. I wish I could try them all. So far every Guerlain fragrance I have tried I have liked and I own its Vetiiver and Homme, so I looked for the Heritage, but cannot find it available from any of the discount on-line vendors. If anyone finds an available discount source for the Heritage, please post the link if you will.

I also took notice of the Caron Third Man. Many here post good comments about this House. The description and reviews on basenotes seem different than BDP, but it is available at a good price (much less than BDP) and I think I will give it a try.

Please keep the suggestions coming and thank you so much.

but the after shave is available for at least one on-line vendor. Does any know how much the EDT and after shave differ?

Also, does anyone have any more suggestions for an EDT or Cologne that is similar to Bois du Portugal but is available in the US for $50.00 or less for 100ml or so?

Thanks as always.

I, too, went on a search for Guerlain Heritage several months ago because at one time (earlier then when I started hunting) it was selling at bargain prices through internet perfume outlets. What I learned was that Guerlain decided their products were too high-end a product to be discounted (image and all that), so they pulled Heritage from any seller except themselves. If you want it, order it from Guerlain or go to their U.S. shop at Epicot Center and pay Guerlain prices. If you are not happy doing that, check ebay for the guy in Havana who lists it, private sales on basenotes or wherever. If you check internet discounters, those who list it will tell you it is not available when you order it. Further, whatever Heritage aftershave splash is available is going to smell similar, but be at aftershave strength. I believe the site that lists the splash is in the U.K., so you have international shipping to contend with. A number of alternative suggestions were made. Check fragrancenet, scentiments, beautyencounter, etc to see what prices they list. Hope this helps, John

I would second both Parfums de Nicolai New York and Zino Davidoff.

New York does seem to be a bit more complex than BdP, and it has a much lighter opening, but at the end of the day they are very similar.

Zino is a lot "sweeter" smelling to my nose, and is similar to BdP but ultimately is a different beast.

I've tried the Guerlain Heritage, and was not terribly impressed. To each their own.

All that said, when my bottle of BdP runs out, which will hopefully not be for a while since I use it sparingly, I'll probably head out and purchase another...there are many fragrances that come close to it, but none really quite make it, IMO.

Is that true of Neiman Marcus on line too? I saw it in my local Saks Fifth Avenue the other day--if the store nearest you doesn't have it, they'll have it delivered free of charge. They do on line sales too.

Of the discount retailers, I've heard that scentiments.com is good. Haven't bought there myself, but it's been recommended by people here with good judgement.

I checked Saks and Nieman Marcus online and didn't see Bois du Portugal at either. I'll check Blue Mercury and then go to a Saks store. Thanks!
