Any speed shavers out there?

...from a 1960 Old Spice ad...

...also, what the problem with that guy's face?

No Photoshop back then.

and nope. not a speed shaver. I might "rush" the shave somewhat if need be, but that means taking 13-15 minutes instead of 20-25 minutes. and when I do it's not a great shave.

Being a noob, what is the typical shaving time for most people? I have been finding that I typically take almost a half hour from start to finish - including the a/s splash at the end. I am afraid to go any faster for fear of cutting myself. I have a Gillette Slim Adjustable, that I just set at 5, to see if I can get any closer shave, as mine haven't been super close. I think more of that is due to still learning technique.

half hour is about right. when you rush bad things happen. i'd say 20-40 minutes is average. last time i timed it I was around 23 minutes start to finish. 3 pass shave.

are you guys including a shower in your shave time? for me, even with a shower and post shave routine, only takes me approximately 20 minutes.

7-10 minutes including selection of materials and prep

Is speed overall shave time or how fast you move the blade?

Everyone is different. Most like the take their time and enjoy the shave. Others need to get it done as efficiently as possible.

I can straight shave in 10 minutes, or DE shave in 20. Or vice versa.

My daily shave takes about 12 -15 minutes - start to finish. I noticed the guy in the ad has very bad blade angle. That might account for his skin problems.

Since I am still learning the ropes, a 2 or 3 pass shave will take me at least 30 minutes. Each shave is slowly cutting that time down as I learn to move more efficiently and whatnot.

Same here. Sounds like that is "speed shaving" compared to others.

I know that Method Shaving guy was a speed shaver.

Holy crap that's a bad picture in the ad. How did that ever sell products?

I shave in the shower and the amount of time can vary between 15-20 minutes, total (shave and shower).

How is old Spice selling products with their current ad campaign?

The "muscular Jamaican guy" ad series was okay. The current run is completely ADHD.

Guy in the gym shower is tossed a basketball, walks out, cuts it open with a big knife and it's a watermelon inside, plunges his hand into the watermelon and pulls out a bar of soap.
The jingle is just as disjointed.... the voices and writing style remind me of the songs the South Park writers used in Baseketball.

Truly horrible. I'm a relentless critic of ad campaigns, though. I know some of these moronic campaigns work with their target audience. But I will continue to believe it is better to use straight-forward, honest, understandable messages to get the best results. I'm in the minority with that thinking, it seems.

Old Spice has been around a long time, and their customers are, for the most part, aging. I have never used an Old Spice soap or scent.

I think "Jamaican guy" was an attempt to get women to buy the product for their men. After all... persuade her, and he comes along for the ride.
But that only works with guys in a relationship. It doesn't do anything for the "Axe crowd" who are still wearing products that their buddies like

The current run seems to be more directed at the athletic or younger male market.

No doubt. I wonder how it's working out for them.

With the current attention span of "Generation-Z" (or whatever they call themselves) being measured in nanoseconds, it's probably doing well.

Provided they can remember why they went to the drug store.

Been using Old spice since i was a teen. My grandfather used it, he taught me well. Not really a fan of the axe stuff.

Edit: when i have a beard. it takes me about 10 minutes to shave the neck and cheek area. If i'm just shaving around the goatee, it takes me a bit longer. Haven't had a clean shave since i started DE shaving, because SWMBO likes it when i keep a beard.
