Any reomendations for winter aftershaves?

Hi everyone, this is my first year DE shaving. I found a number of products that I loved for the summer time which primarily featured lots of lime. As the weather begins to chill the lime scent feels wrong, and I'd like to transition to a wintery scent. I really don't know where to start but I prefer evocative of nature. I've been using a splash and would like to transition to a balm/wax for winter.

Any suggestions?

If you are prefering a balm for the winter to gain the moisturizing effect, apply an unscented balm, such as Nivea Sensitive or Clinique post-shave healer (available at your nearest stuffy, high-crotch department store chain in the ladies Clinique make-up area, of all places, but it works well), and then top it off with something warm smelling, like Old Spice Classic, Master Bay Rum or Topaz, or Stetson original. Apply the balm first, then the liquid aftershave is how I would do it. There are a number of aftershaves which smell great in the winter, trouble is you will likely have to purchase online from barber/beauty supply houses, because not much is available in stores these days. All the large overpriced department store chains want to sell is the fruity, flowery concoctions the big designer names are pimping. Most men over the age of 30 don't care for the crap those places are selling. I can't remember the last time my wife or myself purchased some AS lotion from a large department store, probably at least twenty years ago.

I'd go with Proraso rather than a cream or balm if a splash was ruled out. But Old Spice seems right any time of the year to me...

My favorites for winter are Tabac and DR Harris Sandalwood - but that's a scent thing, not a protection thing. Bigblue's advice to put on an unscented balm first is great. I do that when its real cold out and my skin gets so dry it hurts. Just leave the balm on for a few minutes before applying the aftershave. Queen Charlotte Soaps is also selling balms to match all their shaving soap scents. They work great too. I still have some Vostok balm but I would never use that in winter - too mentholated. Brrrr.

Laura Biagiotti Roma Uomo after shave is a typical winter scent for me. Another option is Davidoff Zino after shave (or EdT).

Old Spice, Bay Rum, and Pinaud Clubman are my 3 go-to in the winter. I have Aqua Velva Musk, but its a bit strong. Maybe I will thin it a bit with witch hazel.

I like Musgo Real balm for winter; ith soothes, and moisturizes and it has an uplifting subtle scent. It's a hefty one though, so I don't know if I can recommed it for your climate. It may not be the right balm for Florida, but up here in the North-West it's a great winter one...

I am 62 and never separated the 2. I go with what I enjoy. Right now it is TOBS Grapefruit! My 6 shooter. I during the winter use a classic British scent. Rose of Trufitt and Hill. The creams are for shaving. If you are looking for a scent. Try an EDC you may like. I use a sandalwood EDC or a Vetiver EDC. The creams never lasted very long IMO.
Have nice day

I'm happy with my George F. Trumper Sandalwood Skin Food for it's subtle sandalwood scent and skin treatment that works all over my moosh after I rub down the jaw. A little higher priced than most selections IMO, but a little goes a long way.

I'm using a lot of Captain's Bay Rum as it gets colder. As well as HBG Sandalwood.

In the past I've always used a balm in the winter, I'm going to try these splashes and see how it goes. They seem to moisturize a bit more than others I've tried. I used to use the Proraso old formula balm, but don't really like the new formulations.

Burt's Bees AS Balm is perfect. Smells citrusy-outdoorsy. It's my favourite balm, especially for winter. It masks your skin really well so it doesn't dissipate in biting wind.

Lot's of good suggestions here. Seems like a lot of suggestions for Bay Rums as a winter scent. I can see that, especially the clove heavy formulations. Also the use of unscented balm as a base is a good one. Thanks for the input!

I got a bottle of the Green Tea and Oat Proraso liquid cream aftershave recently and like it quite a bit. Feels great on my skin the moment I put it on and keeps it hydrated. The scent is slightly citrus-y (reminds me of TOBS Lemon Lime) but not overly so and I think it's suitable for colder weather. Edit: this is available quite inexpensively right now on Italian Barber's eBay shop ($11.99).

I've tried a couple of Edwin Jagger balms (samples of the Aloe Vera and Sandalwood) and those are both pretty good choices for winter.

I'm not into balms, but sandalwood has always been a warming scent for me, and I know there are sandalwood balms out there.
