What's new

Any "juicers" here?

I'm a new juicer, so I have a few simple questions. Let's say I'm going to throw an orange in my juicer, do I peel the outside before or not?

What are the best mixes of fruits?

Yes, definitely peel it first. You can google some recipes, I liked the "green monster". You will have to experiment a bit to find proper proportions but know what you are looking for as far as flavor goes before randomly stuffing things in the juicer. Enjoy!

Some things you'll want to keep the skins on, though, like apples. A lot of fruits' nutrients are in the skin and seeds.

Always peel your citrus fruit, and try to do it last because it will gunk and clog up your juicer. Grapes should also be done last, they too clog and gunk up the juicer.

When I was on a juice feast I would do mean green a lot of the time, it's a standard go to drink.

Kale
Celery
Lemon
Granny Smith Apples
Ginger

If you want a nice fruit drink for an energy boost then try pineapple, grape, melon, pear, anything juicy! Experiment with your favorites and you will find that it's easy to make delicious drinks.
Don't be afraid of leafy veggies like Romaine lettuce, Swiss Chard, etc. Blend them in with other veggies to muddle the flavors. Always do your greens first, so the other veggies can push the juice through.

If I use half a lemon or grapefruit I leave the skin on but my daily juice doesn't change much:
Silverbeet or Spinach
Celery
Carrot
Ginger
Apple
Cucumber and this nets me 400mls

I've seen guys saying that "most of the nutrients are in the peeling" LOL.

If it's not organic you can expect the chemicals they spray on these things to be there too.

I find that using spinach over kale nets be better results. Adding 1 cucumber provides a good amount of juice. I then use apple and ginger for flavor. Sometimes I hand squeeze lime juice into the mix.
I got hooked on this blend.

i got myself a blendtec... love it!!
my drink of choice.... handfuls of spinach, one whole apple, 2 kale stalks, 1 carrot, 1 celery,
if im feeling crazy.. ill spice it up with ginger and cucumbers..

Okay, smart... butt... comments aside, this actually sounds fun. Is there a good, cheap blender out there? I can't plunk down a lot of money for one, but I'm interested in trying this if I can find a quality blender for not too much.

my co-workers got the nurti-bullet...
i think thats around $100, they have no complaints about it..

Each weekday morning, I use a Ninja and make a smoothie with spinach, carrot, celery, banana, brewer's yeast, chia seeds, ground flax seeds, Costco frozen berry blend, Acai juice and Silk Fruit and Protein. Much easier to make then to list, but packs an energy wallop.

Sorry to intrude but I've been very interested in juicing as a meal replacement and is like to know what best units to get. I'm the type to spend money on quality. What would be the best brands/models to review?

We love our Blendtec and use it almost every day. We actually use it more than our juicer because it is easier to clean afterwards.

I have used the cheap $50 juicer from walmart with some success. Some people like to splurge on the Breville ones as showcased in the Infomercial Documentary "Fat Sick and Nearly Dead", or the low rpm Jack Lalanne juicers, which according to them oxidize the juice less. YMMV!
