Gold Medal on one side and I'm not 100% sure on the other, Made in Germany...

Bummer the blade is in that condition...

I don't have any specific info, sorry.

Yeah, even that I have not gotten into straights just yet, I have a feeling that day will come. I don't have any razors from my side of the family, so it would have been nice if it was usable, but I am glad to have it none the less.

You may wish to clean it up and keep it as a family collectible. It is quite heavily worn down. The flat areas on the sides of the spine show how much honing has been done. It may clean up decently for display. Do not expect to shave with this one.

It should clean up okay- +1 on this good advice. Lots of firms would import razors from Germany with their names stamped on the tang.

Jahn, near as I can figure, was out of Detroit and had the folks in Germany make their razors for them. Much like cars in the U.S. have parts and such made in Canada and Mexico. Unfortunately, the value in this razor is going to be as an heirloom and not much chance that it will be a good shaver. There is too much damage at the cutting edge and it has already been honed and honed and honed. Your 2g father sure got his money's worth out of it for sure.

I'd suggest cleaning it the best you can and put it in a shadow box, along with a picture and a little narrative card that talks about who it belonged to. Then, hang it on the wall.

Thanks for all the information! This was never intended to be a shaver, just as an heirloom. Truth be told, my wife and I had no idea they had any razors from her family, and we were just happy to have it from a sentimental value. I am glad to find out that it might can be cleaned up a little, I was not sure and I want to do nothing that would damage it in any way.
Once more I am reminded what great group and wealth of information is found here at B&B!

I found one of these Detroit razors today at an antique store - I couldn't find much information about it except this thread.. here are some pics.

Front side reads: DETROITER
Other side says: E.J. Jahn & CO Detroit, MICH
