Any DE head shavers out there???

Does anyone shave their heads using a DE razor. I want to try it eventually but am a bit weary about it. I am off to my first DE shave ever (on my face).

It's certainly possible and people do it here. In any case, the methods you use in wetshaving (using soaps and creams instead of canned goo, a shaving brush, prep and post-shave routines) will make the shave a whole lot better and more enjoyable. I hear this in conjunction with the Mach 3 (instead of the Fusion, since it's the cartridge is so cumbersome) is one of the best ways to shave your head to the smoothest. I would start with that much, since it will take a while to understand how to shave your face with DE razors, and you want to have that knowledge going in to doing the same to the top of your head.

I used to shave my head, and tried a number of methods of getting the smoothest shave: Mach3, DE, and Headbalde. My best results always came from using the Headblade. The DE was a little cumbersome in certain areas, especially the back of the head. After a few tries with a DE, I switched to the Headblade permanently.

I shave my head and face everyday with a DE since 1/1/10. I nicked my head the first few shaves, but after a couple of weeks, I learned the pattern.
It took me about one month to get BBS shaves.
No pressure- that's the key. I do two passes on my face, then two on my head (and some touch-up) in 30 minutes.

I had great success. No problems whatsoever and I even did my head. This is great.

How hard is it to make sure you've done a thorough job (i.e. not missed any spots)?

It's pretty easy - even by sight - on the face. Back of the head concerns me :blushing:

It's the only reason I have DE razors. I have used SE, DE and str8s on my head...fantastic results with all. I don't see what all the fuss is about...I hated the Mach 3 and Fusion. It is far more of a mystery to me how some head shavers find those razors easier or better for their dome. I have stopped using str8s on my head but continue to use daily from quite a large selection of DE and SE razors on my head without any problem. However as always.....YMMV!

I certainly do. But I use a different razor and blade setup for my head. I feel that I simply do not have to or want to have a bbs shave on my head; a close shave once every three days is good for me. Scalp is not vascularized or innerved as much as the face, hair shafts seem different too, and frankly head stubble does not look bad at all, even a week old, if the face is clean. So I use the gentlest setup possible for my head, not wanting to cut myself needlessly. I use a lightweight Lord tech with a dorco 300. :001_rolle On my face, I like the sharper blades.

I have been shaving my head for 12 years now. I just go by feel, I never miss a spot. I guess it comes with experience, because I can remember early on missing a few lines here and there. Its not as difficult as you think.

Dib,

Welcome to B&B! We're glad you're here. Especially as a newbie, you might benefit from checking older threads to see what folks do. I shave my head with a DE and, as noted above, don't use my most aggressive setup to do it. Works great for me.

Also, our wiki is loaded with good information. Here's the head shaving article.

Enjoy!
