What's new

Another Williams thread.

I have to comment after using new Williams for three months now. I'm on the third cake and things are going great!

Anymore my technique is simple. Soak my VDH boar brush in hot water, and go right to town on the puck. 45 seconds to a minute tops yields a thick custard lather that is slick. Spread on the face and go to town. It does dissipate quickly, but a few wet brushes to the area to shave and all is well!
This is also a great touch up soap as you can splash water on an area that was rinsed and still rub up foam for a touch up. Doin me great so far!:biggrin1:

I understand that not everyone can get it to lather, but it works great for me. It doesn't leave my face feeling the way Mike's does, but for a $0.99 cent puck I don't expect it to. Good soap for little money.

I don't.

I've never had a problem lathering it and I doubt that anyone else does either, that's just a distraction from the fact that it is only worth 99 cents.

I tried it for the first time today. Had no problems lathering it. The scent is exactly like mosquito repellant, but the lather was nice. I haven't got any real issues with the scent either, but there is a lot better smells ;) Beats Arko by far for me though.

I've used it a few times. The first couple bowl lathering were ok. Better with each try. Obviously technique related. Today I used it again--face lathered for the first time. It worked great. Much better than my previous try's bowl lathering. Those face latherers might be on to something

I envy you US-shavers with Williams around the corner for next to nothing. Once you get the lather right, an issue for some it seems, that stuff rocks. It has become one of my favs and I am really greatfull some of our great B&B members supplied me with enough of it to use it whenever I want. Don't let the price or availability, nor the difficulty to lather it right, cloud your judgement; Williams is not as good as it used to but still right on top!

Williams isn't difficult to lather it's cheap and I can find it easily. For me the soap lasts quite a long time, I like it enough to have a good stock amount of it. I have grated Williams with Van Der Hagen glycerin soap the results were pretty good.

Wow, three cakes of Williams in three months--that's using a lot of soap. At $1-2 a month for Williams, you might end up shaving more economically per shave by using a much better soap, even though it will cost a lot more up front. For example, even though I have fairly hard water and usually load my brush for 60+ seconds, I can't make a dent in soaps like Cade ($11-12), Pre de Provence ($15--and it seems that my puck of PdP will never ever run out, even as I load it for a full 2 minutes), and quite a few others. Or a 12-stick box of lathering-maniac Arko for $20 (Amazon.com)--I rub hardly any on my face and the lather explodes--will last a long, long time. In any case, enjoy your shaves!

The amount I use may be more than someone else uses, however, I really enjoy using it. It's still dirt cheap, and since I'm rolling my own smokes now I can buy more Williams!:thumbup1:
