What's new

Another R41 Thread

I just for my new R41 for Christmas. I have only shaved with it once.

Now fit and finish are great! My only complaint is that it does not have much weight to it and to me it feels cheap. Maybe I will get used to it. I could get a handle from another razor but for the cost if the R41 I should not have to.

The shave was not bad, the 2 pass was as close as my 3 pass shaves. I did get 2 small weepers but other than that it was not bad. I used a shark blade because I didnt want something super sharp. I always use a light touch but this razor requires a very light touch. Im sure there is a sweet spot for the angle but man it cuts from about any angle

I will keep it at least for awhile and see how it goes. Right now I feel I will keep it and never give it up

Congratulations with the Beast! You could always get a custom handle such as a UFO, Weber, Tradere, Ikon, etcetera to add more weight to it. Good luck.

Good to hear! Since my new R41 is about 1/6th heavier than my old SS the weight seems more than fine to me so far. Good to hear you got a good cut with it. My 1st shave didn't go as good, I'm hoping it was a bad blade maybe. I'll try it again tomorrow with a dif blade after my skins had a rest lol

The R41 works well with the Weber Classic handle, either the original or the current model. I find it easier to control the razor with a heavier handle. YMMV.

I am going to keep trying it with the handle it came with or maybe try the EJ89L handle before going with a custom handle for it. I sold a couple of my custom handles to raise Christmas money.

I have no problem with the handle or the weight. With as much exposure as you get with the R41, I am dubious about added weight. It shaves better than anything in my stable of DE razors with the factory handle.

It seems like the R41 is a razor that every DE shaver needs to try at least once. I'm fine shaving with my new Merkur 37C Slant - is the R41 worlds more aggressive than the Slant?

Yes you can be sure it is.

Comparing both razors I would say slant is not aggressive at all, just both mild and very efficient.

I love both 37C and R41; can't say there is only one winner.

The r41 grande had a hollower feel to me. I didn't notice muh difference in performance, but I just prefer the feel of the smaller handle.

For those who have tried both, how do the R41 and the R41 Grande compare? Is one more "dangerous" than the other?

I prefer the larger handle and the weight over the standard R41, but as Skleice notes, the shave is pretty much the same. I weighed individual parts from both razors and the top cap and base plate weighed more on the grande than they did on the standard. I thought that was odd, and after comparison, the top cap is about a mm wider and longer than the standard and the bottom plate is about a mm longer. Again, the shave was about the same with each - very close :biggrin1:.

I have both too. I'm enjoying the R41 but it's leaving me very sore in the neck area. I have a couple of things I need to try to improve the situation, firstly I may be trying to get too many shaves from a blade and secondly I've been using feathers and I may need to tone down a little and try Astra SP's as an example. The 37C is a cracking razor, great shave still but much less aggressive. In fact I'm not sure I can tell a difference in smoothness between the two, which leaves me with the dilemma of whether the R41 is worth it. I'm sure it is, I just need to try different things. Also I shave every day and I'm not sure if the R41 could be an every day razor for me, but time will tell.

wow...I just assumed the head was the exact same. I never bothered to compare them at all.

I have now had two shaves with the R41. I must saw WOW, again very close with two passes. This time not a single nick or cut and now irrition. I have used a slant before (from a friend). I still would like to get one but this razor had a closer shave with less passes for sure

i used the ikon handle, personally the R41 is a great shaver, very close and very sharp, but i found it is very picky with the blades, what i mean to say is it narrows the "pickens" out .one has to find the perfect blade for them, for me some were too sharp , others too dull, and frankly i had to slow down and concentrate more -as opposed to my De89 i can practically use any blade out there and zip through all directions without any cuts

the handle on the R41 is classy but very light and DE89 is definitely heavier but still hollow, once in a while Ikon sells their SS handle on Amazon for 35.00 free shipping
