Another bad instructions video

Look, the way you shouldn't use your brush. Why are there so many people like that (not just shaving):confused1

Needs milk and a bidet!
I don't know why that's a bad way to use your brush....

I don't do it that way but I'm not gentle with my brushes. Clearly the way he did it works.

what I found interesting was he used his finger to apply lather to his mustache, never done that before. And also not even soaking the brush, I've always soaked mine. But hey it worked didn't it.

You can see that thing literally shedding in his hands. I wonder why... Not the greatest looking lather, either.

A video on how to use a monster size gob of shaving cream to not make lather while ensuring that you'll wear a hole in the center of your shaving brush.

See, this is why I won't let a barber give me a straight razor shave. You never know whether or not they actually know anything about wet shaving.

All these years and not once did any of you guys tell me the brush should be the same diameter as the bowl. I feel cheated, and self conscience about my tiny brushes and huge bowls. Now I must learn the "churning butter" technique to build a proper paste.

Just out of curiosity, whatever happened to YMMV?

I think what most responses are referring to is more the fact that his technique is physically detrimental to the brush, not in response to the lather he was producing. Smashing it straight down into the bowl and then pushing it so far onto his face that the bristles splay out is what is going to kill that brush. You want to swirl with the tips of the bristles, not the sides of the bristles at the base.

That makes sense. I agree, it seems like an awfully rough way to do it, but I don't know that I'd flat out say it is WRONG. You're just gonna be buying a lot of brushes in the future. Which it seems a lot of folks on here do anyway. :D

Well you could tap in a nail by using the claw of hammer instead of the face. It wouldn't be "wrong", just an improper use of the tool.

I think he says at the beginning of the video:"This is Pall Mall.........brush", so it kinda makes sense, sell you brush, and then show you a way how to quickly destroy it, so he can sell you new one.

It's always there. In this case, my mileage says I could make a better lather without a brush by rubbing the cream between my hands with a little water. I would suggest that if anyone feels like the lather in that video looks good, they may have never had a proper lather. That is purely based on my mileage, and I only have experience shaving my own face. Don't get me started on the brush abuse.:wink2::wink2:

Nice, I'm so glad I have now learned how to destroy my brush and how to make a thick non-lather.... I'm happy with what Geo & Mantic taught me!!

I agree with you, it wasn't a lather, he basically just spreaded a cream over face. He put some water on brush, but shook it off immediately.

That's just his style of doing it.
Because he's a stylist.

+1

Not every single thing in this world is YMMV. There are, in fact, WRONG ways to do certain things as well as no good way to do other things. All this chap was doing was destroying a brush, whether he knows it or not, while making a "lather".
