What's new

And you thought Kent only made floppy brushes

I bought a brush a little while back on ebay and I finally got it yesterday. I was surprised when I opened up and saw the brush as it is a tiny little bugger! Was hoping more for an awesome brush to use but might just be too small.
Another perk is the brush is butterscotch!

The knot is insanely dense though and looks to never have been used. Definitely could sit with my Rooney Emillion 3-band just fine and others as it is right now and most likely when it was used. Got it in a line up with a Wee Scot, Case, Stubby 1 2-band and Chubby 2 2-band for fun. :thumbup1:

Man, I wish I would have bid more on that. It only went for like $30 shipped right?

I had my eye on that Butterscotch Simpson's that sold the other day for $145 and missed out on that one as well.

Glad this brush went to a B&B member. Too bad Kent doesn't make them like they used to.

Just a little higher than $30 but very close Harvitz. I saw that Simpson as well but I knew I wouldn't be bidding on that.

And thanks beginish! I'm still debating if I will use it. I don't quite have the bug to buy a brush just to have it. I like to use what I have and usually like 22-26mm with an average loft or shorter. Pictures can be too deceptive if you don't have something that you can directly compare it with. It's awesome in it's own right though and might make an exception even if I don't use it.

Joe/Joe: Could you post a link to the butterscotch Simpson brush that sold on ebay? I'd like to take a look at it.

I regret letting that one slip by too. What was your max bid? Im curious what it would have cost me if I had had the cash to bid at the time.

The simpson was a snowman shaped butterscotch with a store brand label in a Simpson box (I didn't see any proof it actually was a Simpsons rather than a random brush in a Simp box but it looked like a nice brush). The seller added towards the end of the auction the fact that it was reknotted (glue near the knot was found), so I was really surprised it went that high. It was a very cool handle though.

Very nice brush! I only have one Kent brush (2009 B&B LE) and I love it.

I saw the rebranded snowball simpson that went for $145, but have deleted it from my watch list. Maybe someone else will have the link to it and post.

It actually wasn't re-knotted. I had many emails with the seller and they sent me more pics. The "glue" was actually just a slightly darker butterscotch discoloration on the top of the handle. Nothing on the knot. In fact, what was really funny is the pick they sent me of the discoloration was from the opposite side that clearly displayed the simpson logo!

The seller told me it belonged to their grandfather and was never used for 48 years as it just sat in the box.

Here is a pic (sorry to kind of thread jack Joe )

Ahh nice. That explains the price (I assume that the winner saw those pics too). Still WAAAY more than I would have spent, but I might have considered 100 or so if I had the cash at the time and had seen those pics. Nice pic up for the buyer. Hopefully we'll get some SOTD's soon.

Here is the link for that Simpson. I couldn't remember why it was so hard to find, but the reason was that they didn't have Simpson in the title, just Vintage Unused Badger Shaving Brush Bakelite Handle.

I don't quite remember my max bid on the Kent and not finding any way to find out what it was on ebay. I believe it was around 31 dollars though. I just saw how low it had remained and I had to try. I figured it was going to go sky high at the last moment, and I didn't want to go as high as they usually go, but it stayed low enough that I won.

I decided I like the little guy just for display if that happens to be all it does, but I am going to give it a try in the upcoming week. I applied 2 layers of nail polish on the label to protect it and gave it a slight polish so I'll report back how it goes and have some pictures too! :thumbup1:

Sorry for the thread skew but I have to say that Simpson is one strange lookin brush.
worth the $$ IMO.

Hey, congrats on the Kent.
When you decide you can't use it...

Yeah, RCC. The guy that won it has a unique brush that for a Simpsons collector I'm sure is worth every penny. I thought it was crazy when I thought it was a reknotted unknown maker in a simpson box, but seeing this new photo, it's not crazy, just more than I could justify spending. I still want it though. :tongue_sm Anyone recognize the badge? Looks like IM3? (not sure on the I). Anyone seen that before? Made specifically for use with Irische Moos? :tongue_sm

That kent though... man it's pretty. I was amazed how low it went, really glad a B&B'er snagged it for such a steal.

I saw something on ebay here just a bit ago that caught my eye. It's not a brush, it's another item and I'm hoping like mad it goes for a low price. We'll see though. :001_smile

Isn't the IM for I. Magnin? That was a San Francisco department store company, now owned by Federated and sometimes used as a Macys store brand.

that's my guess too.
I. Magnin's and Joseph Magnin's were relatively upscale department stores.
I remember them when I was a kid.
A rebranded Simpson's would definitely be in keeping with their syle.

You're probably right. The auction picture was of the other side of the brush and had a store brand name on it. Could have been one of those.

edit: Oh Kooshman already found the auction. It was indeed I magnin. You clever fellows.
