What's new

And the winner is...

GFT

I spent the past couple months working my way through C&S and Trumpers sample kits. GFT is the clear winner for me (and also, lucky for me, my wife). Why is GFT so awesome? When I first put it on it, lemons is all I can smell; crisp, clean lemon zest. Then it fades to more of a musky/wood/moss, which is what made it the winner. And the lemon never really goes away, there's always a hint in the background. It's Fantastic. Anyone else a fan of the GFT?

Unfortunately, in dead last for me was the C&S Cuba. Which is sad, I've read many good things about it. Cuba + my body chemistry = muy mal. When I first put it on, it smelled like dung. I couldn't beleive it, so (without describing my thoughts) asked my wife to have a whiff (as she did with all of the scents I tried) and the first thing she said, I kid you not, was, "That smells like a toilet." The smell eventually faded into a cigar/tobacco scent. Anyway, no can do on the doo doo.

GFT is a great scent; I had the sample and really liked it. There are several Trumper scents I love--Wild Fern is my fave, Eucris is right up there. I also remember really getting into Astor.

GFT is probably Trumper's best scent, along with Eucris. The others IMO are pretty forgettable, with some just downright vile. The light musk drydown of GFT is superb.

I like it, too, although I've only tried it via their sample vial. Wonder how long they've had it?

"When I first put it on, it smelled like dung. I couldn't beleive it, " I have this similar reaction to Polo, it always smells like a sweaty locker room.

I'm going through a Trumpers sample set, too. To my nose, the GFT was a mostly lemon scent, and the lemon stayed predominant throughout the day, or a good 5 to 6 hours. I read another review that talked about cedar in GFT, but I never picked up much but the lemon. Not a preferred scent for me.

I'm wearing the Spanish Leather today. I want to like it, based on the description (leather/ wood/ clove/ rose/ tobacco), more than I do.

So far, after trying Skye, Limes, Eucris, Curzon and GFT, to my surprise my favorite has been the Curzon. I haven't heard anyone talk about it, but to me it has similar opening notes as Floris Vetiver, but holds those notes throughout the drydown. I just wish I knew what those opening notes are, or how to describe them better than a "good sour smell".

Yeah, it's deffinitely bizarre how colognes can have such a defferent smell on different people.

Have you tried Wild Fern? It's awesome.

Also, I like Ajaccio Violets. In the bottle it smells funny (Mr. Bubble, as it's said in the reviews section), but on the skin it is a wonderful floral. Very nice.

Sandalwood is also excellent, but it's a different sort of Sandalwood.

Astor is also great--to me, sort of citrusy, floral, and yet herb--y with a hint of earthiness. (no, I'm no good at describing scents)

I should add that all my exposure is from the small sample vials. I can't afford a whole bottle yet!

I haven't tried Wild Fern, Astor, or Ajaccio Violets, and they weren't included in the sample set. British Isles may have those, so I can check with them. I think I've seen Astor there, but don't recall seeing the other two.

The Sandlewood is next, and I'm looking forward to it. I like C&E Sandlewood, so I'm looking forward to seeing how they compare.

I'm still trying as many as I can, and will then start looking on BST, Basenotes and other sites for bargains, once I've narrowed it down more. I do like the idea of getting a number of 10 ml decants and having more variety. Since I like to rotate, I'm not sure the large bottles are necessry for all the frags I may want to rotate in. I wish Rorschuck's decants were still available. Every time I try to pm him his mail box is full. :frown:

I couldn't STAND the Curzon. I thought it was seriously foul. "Curzon"="Curse on," as far as I'm concerned.

What a great example of YMMV.

Yes, it really makes me wonder sometimes what others around me might be thinking, while I'm really enjoying something I'm wearing??? If they like it and say something, then you know. But if they are silent.....

Ah, you have encapsulated the inner monologue of a Lilac Vegetarian perfectly!
