What's new

Am I the only shaver who likes P.160 more than Cella?

Why does one soft soap become the Messiah, and not the other?

I always felt they performed similarly, but I prefer the smell of P.160.

The cult-like craziness that surrounds Cella is almost nauseating. (I guess it's the Tabac of 2011)

I'm not going to say I'm a soft soap martyr, but I can't believe people are JUST NOW getting into Italian soft soaps. I started using Valobra Almond and Menthol in Feb. 08 when people were worshiping at the altar of MWF.

I guess this thread is going to be incendiary, but I just felt like venting.:001_wub::blush:

YMMV when we're talking about the flavour of the week, I guess.:thumbup1:

I got moves like Jagger
I traded my 38C (with 30 various blades and a tube of KMF) for some Astra's, P160 and Cella (both cream small starter size). Hopefully, I'll be able to provide a P160 / Cella opinion in the next 2 weeks. :001_unsur

I agree, they perform about the same but the smell of P.160 is way better. Cella has that dirty sock smell mixed with the almond. I would rather they stopped making Cella and keep producing P.160

I agree. I tried once and hated: MWF, Tabac, Irisch Moos. Many of the fad items are not for me at all, but I'll try them and give them a fair shake. I definitely get sick of the same posts over and over and over and over and over again about the same products. I just traded for a bit of Cella off another fella's brick. We'll see how it goes.

Also, Gene, we've both been around long enough to see these fads pop up, sometimes repeatedly. I suspect you're like me and have a few things you like and stick with.

I am with you on the P.160 guitarslinger. I have nothing against Cella, it is a great soap too, but I prefer the P.160 both in scent and performance.

I suppose the true soft soap martyrs are the Italian barbers who have been using the stuff for 200 years.

Yep.

I still use SOoM, Cade, C&E, PdP and TGQ quite often.

Tallow worship, IMO, is probably the most ridiculous fad that won't die.:cursing:

Both Cella and P.160 are fantastic soaps, and I could live with either one of them. Scent is a personal thing, and I do prefer the sweeter scent of P.160. However, scent is just one factor, but taking all into consideration, Cella for me just provides that little bit extra. Hard to put into words but it is my number one soap, and likely to be for the foreseeable future.

I've been using Cella for several months now (along with MWF, TOBS, Acca Kappa 1869) and find it is a great soap. Ordered a small chunk of P.160 after reading Marco's review and agree that it too is a great soap and the scent (to me) is a little stronger and nicer than Cella. Right now P.160 is running a VERY close second to Cella but I could be very happy with either soap. I'm sure both soaps will maintain a top spot in my rotation. :biggrin1:

The adoration of Cella, P.160, MWF, etc., should end today.

A special salvation awaits users of Queen Charlotte soft soaps. 1) Pick from a variety of scents. 2) Lather and shave. 3) Enter paradise.

Agree. I strongly prefer P.160. I couldn't place that funky Cella smell at first but I finally did. I smells just like a dry dog food I fed my dog as a kid.

It is not enough to succeed. Others must fail.

Why does everyone have to make these issues into more than they are? I like a soap/cream/whatever. Big deal. I dislike a soap. Big deal. If you find something you like, I'm happy for you. If your opinion agrees with mine, I don't say you're a genius, and if you disagree, I don't say you're an idiot.

But that's not enough. If a person can't get MWF to lather worth a damn, then by golly it must be that despite owning more high end products than a typical mall and possessing more experience than the combined staff of AoS (admittedly, no great accomplishment) he lacks the proper technique. Did you try lathering upside down? Did you try lathering standing on one foot with your head in a bucket of brine? Did you try lathering with a lampshade on your head? (Nick swears by the latter.) And if that person prefers one scent over another, well he must be some sort of barbarian.

Does anyone ever order a product thinking "I want this product to suck to validate the opinion I hold in advance"? Does anyone ever order P.160, or Tabac, or anything thinking "Boy, I hope this stinks to high heaven so I can give member X a piece of my mind"? Are we that insecure in our own positions that we accuse others of idolizing a particular product or facet of our hobby while simultaneously recommending one that we endorse?

Penhaligon's sucks! I know someone who makes soap in their bathtub that's cheaper and better, and I model my life after their teachings. Bring incense, a lamb, and a virgin.
